Think we should get an email concerning new rules/or changes

I wish we could be informed of important changes/rules via an email.  I check out the Forums each day, but a lot of Hubbers do not.  I'm sure those folks miss a lot of important information.

So many more could be reached if important news were posted in the Hub Pages blog or even on the Hub Pages Facebook account. It seems like information would be viewed on the feed whenever we sign in. The other day there was an important change in how the hubs are sorted on our account page. A short blurb would be all that is necessary to reduce confusion.

I never read forums, etc.  I'm only on the site when HP emails me that a hubber I"m following wrote a hub, asked a question or started a thread.  I'm not aware of changes and usually find out about them the hard way.

There have not been any updates in the Terms Of Use since November 18, 2011. Those are what I consider "the rules".

HubPages is redesigning the website in hopes of getting back into the good graces of Google again. Those are "important changes" that will hopefully breathe new life into the site and in-the-long-run help us all.

My hat is off to the HPTeam.

To me the rules are things you must and cannot do to have a hub pass QAP and be featured.

        These have changed since 2011.

        A lot.

Heck, they changed quite a lot in just the last three months.

I am not suggesting notification because I am bitching about these changes, I want to comply with them which is hard to do when I can't find any explicit statement of what they are despite the fact that I am here on the site almost daily.

I see what you mean. There are  A) grammar rules. B) forbidden words. C) word count. D) spammy rules. C) violations. Etc...has changed.

It is a good thing that things have evolved a lot from what I have read in the forums. And, that several important changes were made in the past several months.

Personally, I don't get email updates from HubPages. I read the forums, the blogs and do not miss much information about recent changes, be it before or after the fact.

"All Hubs have to meet the site content guidelines set forth in the Google AdSense Program Policy, in the HubPages Terms of Use, and summarized below."

Um, I know that.  Do you know about the changes that happened about a month ago about previously acceptable content that is now deemed "spammy'?  Maybe it did not happen to effect you, it did effect many people.

What about the Hubscore being calculated a new way, an unspecified new way that made a lot of people have different scores and have previously featured material unfeatured?

Unspecified changes have happened that are not fully reflected in the documented rules.  You may not have noticed them, but they did happen.  Maybe it is because I am very engaged here that I and others noticed effected but largely undocumented rule changes that you apparently have not.

Or maybe despite having been here many years with over a hundred hubs and hubstaff themselves confirming these changes happened here on the forums, I am just hallucinating these things. Take your pick.

Yes, I am aware of those things that were discussed in the forums. HubPages engaged spam filters that were necessary and listed what constitutes spammy elements.

HubPages will never be specific on hubscores / algorithms.

              You are not hallucinating. smile

      Hi mary,

We do list these changes in the HubPages Weekly Newsletter via email. To make sure you're getting the newsletter, go to your My Account page, choose the Profile tab, then "Account Settings." Then make sure "Allow HubPages to contact you?" and "Keep me up to date with HubPages news" are both checked. smile

This is news to me. It wasn't in this week's newsletter. I usually try to add a video to my hubs, as it has a good point value in the checklist. When major changes like this are implemented, it would be nice to email all hubbers on the spot.

Newsletters go out every Wednesday, so any changes that happen after Wednesday during the week will be reflected in the next week's Newsletter. smile

Thanks, Christy.  I just checked my notifications and I had them both checked.  I think my problem is my email is flooded with so many other things I evidently miss the Newsletter.  I have made a note to watch out on Wednesdays.

Yes, I just saw the HubPages Weekly email about all of the changes.  I must have missed last week's email.  So, I was surprised when some of the changes hit.

Yeah, I quite agree with Christy that HP emails every new update

Yes, just this morning I read about the changes to the HP videos.  That didn't affect me, but I wonder how many Hubbers it would, and they wouldn't know.

I'll need to take a look at that one, Mary. So far I don't have any HP videos but you never know...

I'd love an email with the new rules and policies. Especially when layouts are changed, or the way we are scored changes.

If you're using videos from YouTube in your Hubs then the change doesn't affect you. The change affects people who were making their own video "hubs" and hosting them on H.P. instead of writing articles. H.P. is phasing that feature out.
