I wanted to know whether websites like afjpbn dot com can get access to the tax information submitted by the hubbers? The website has been copying the profile along with hubs of many hubbers.

Sites like that use scrapers to copy what's visible on the page, not hidden material, so there is no chance they could access anything that's not public.

Of course there is always a risk from hackers but that's a different issue.

If they have the ability to copy the entire site, they may have the information. I feel that we need to ask HP to get these sites out of our lives through Google as quickly as possible. I wish we knew if staff is working on it when it involves the entire site. The last one was gone in about five weeks, but we don't know if staff assisted. I think they may have done so. We can't worry about it, however.

Brakel2, they're called"scrapers" because they are scraping the content off the top of the site, they're not digging deep!

Imagine if you went through the site and copied and pasted all the Hubs and all the profiles.  You still wouldn't have tax information, because that's not visible and therefore you couldn't copy and paste it, could you?  That's exactly what scrapers do, they are just automated copy-and-paste machines.

Unless you have been posting your tax info publicly on your hubs, no they can't access it.

Yours was likewise my first thought; but if banks, credit card companies, and stores can get hacked all the time... Then again, hopefully HP just flat out keeps that stuff offline.

You're really kidding yourself there.  They had us all submit that info online, you don't seriously think it's stored anyplace else, do you?

HubPages doesn't keep anything offline, they have no place (department) in which to physically store records, and they don't even send us tax forms.

Of course they have the tax info we submitted to them online somewhere.  How else are they going to keep and use it?

Actually, why couldn't they have it on the harddisk of a dusty computer unplugged from the internet and stuck in a closet or underneath Paul E's bed? big_smile

That would be an unrelated issue to whether a specific content scraper had the info. They don't.
