On your own sites, what is the affect of two links to the same product

   I get a decent amount of traffic to a particular article on one of my blogs and just decided to add an amazon image link to it, though I already had a text link. I did this because I'm getting traffic but no conversions.
   
   Is this wise or unwise? Will this have a detrimental effect on the pages rank in the SERPs?

      It should not have any effect,but to be on the safe side, you may wish to ensure you have your affiliate links set to "no follow".

      Personally I don't find that text links convert that well, and people respond much better to an image. You don't have to use the Amazon code, you can just use the image from the Amazon product and link it using your affiliate code(or an ordinary link if you're using Skimlinks).   That does mean you can't show the price, but I like it because it looks much cleaner and I can size the image and place it exactly where I want - whereas I find Amazon ads don't always play nicely in Worpress.

         Thanks Marisa. I thought about actually taking the image from amazon and using it, I've done that before and I usually do; I used their code but I might go ahead and switch it to an image off of amazon and link it.
         
         Also, thanks for the plug-in and instructions; I've been looking for a plug-in to make links nofollow.

   Are you talking about search traffic? I don't think it will hurt you. It doesn't seem to hurt my pages. I think it's worth trying.
   
   But...no conversions with a text link? That's a red flag. Are they reading the page? If not, the high traffic might be temporary...
   
   Anyway, it's a good experiment. If you put it there and start getting conversions and then your traffic dies down, that would suggest something else - that Google considers it a doorway page. Which could explain why your text link isn't converting in the first place.

      Thanks, that makes sense. It will be a good experiment.
      The traffic isn't huge, not even hundreds of views a day, but it does get dozens of views a day; which isn't too bad for that blog. Also has been shared fairly extensively on social media.
      
      What caught my attention today is that I got a comment on it; a real one, not a spammy one. So, I know at least some people are reading it and Google Analytics stats indicates people are staying on the page. It's ranked well for keyphrase in the SERPs.
      
      Though the article is mostly informational, which I think is the reason why it doesn't sell anything. It's not a product review, but the product I've included is directly related to the subject matter and would help the person interested in the subject matter directly.

         Sounds good, then. If you can't get that page to convert, then you could try giving a juicy link from there to another page that targets conversions more specifically.
