I published a hub years ago (3/8/2012), and recently discovered that there is a VERY similar hub that was published as well. How do I find out when the other hub was originally published? It's been edited so I can't see the original publishing date... Any help is GREATLY appreciated as I do not want to find out that mine was published AFTER the other one.
The recipies for cooking the same dish are very identical.Maybe it just happened by chance that your hub is very similar to the other person
If it were just the basic steps, then I would agree - however even some of the language (article wording) in the hub are EXACTLY like mine...
Any idea how to find out the original publishing date of someone else's hub to compare dates?
Could you just not ask HP to moderate and decide if it is copied?
In my experience, hubpages has been very diligent in determining if new hubs are plagiarizing other hubs. If they don't catch it immediately, then they will probably catch it soon. If not, you can always write to HP and point it out to them.
You can try reporting that hubber to the team@hubpages.com, but do not hold your breath. I have had my most popular hub copied several times, and one of them full of great stolen images from other websites, and if your hub is better it is still going to outperform the new one.
If it is not doing that great, it was probably not doing that well before it was stolen. My suggestion? Write some more. As you have pointed out yourself, quantity is queen.
Laura, If you use the search bar here at Hubpages, both hubs will come up for cooler corn. The other one says it was updated August 12, 2012. The odds are that the other one was written before yours. Since your hub is coming up first, I wouldn't worry about the other one. That one doesn't seem to be indexed by Google either and yours is.
The other hubber has been on HubPages 6 years, has over 1500 followers, has written almost 700 hubs and has a hubber score of 99. Doesn't sound like your typical person that steals hubs from others. I wouldn't worry about it.
You do realise there is no copyright on an idea?
Plus if you look on Google there's any amount of people who have had exactly the same "idea".
You do realise cooking books are copyright protected?
However, recipe ingredients are not copyright protected.
Its the way you make the recipe.I am pretty sure her recipe didn't only include the ingredients.Like Laura said "If it were just the basic steps, then I would agree - however even some of the language (article wording) in the hub are EXACTLY like mine..."
I design crochet patterns. Someone else quite often will have designed the same thing I did at the same time and I always think I have unique idea. The amazing part is how minds can work so much the same. That is what happened here in all probability. Just leave it be.
There's two issues here
The first is whether or not the two hubs are similar. I've taken a look and frankly IMO there is absolutely no case to answer. They are no more similar than any writing might be which describes a particular approach to cooking something which is also described by other people elsewhere on the internet. Neither author originated the idea and both are reciting an approach they were told about - end of story. It's not original and it's not unique.
The second issue is the matter of identifying other people as infringing your copyright.
It's a really bad idea to discuss this in public unless:
1) you have a really good understanding of copyright and how it works
2) you are absolutely certain this has happened.
3) consequently you are definitely prepared to issue a "cease and desist" notice and report the matter to Google to ensure the content is taken down (i.e. submit a form to Google citing the copyright infringement (see https://support.google.com/legal/answer/1120734#counter) and make all the necessary legal declarations that they require of you - and then sign the form as a legal document)
That's because it's libellous to suggest somebody has done something when that's not the case.
It's also possible that the individual in question might see this as a personal attack - and that's not allowed in the forum.
If you're not sure about a possible copyright by all means ask people for their advice - but just do not do this in public if you're discussing details which identify the other person.
In general if you see something that bothers you in terms of copyright it's a much better idea to discuss it offline (or not in public) with a knowledgeable friend and that way you stay on the right side of the libel laws.
BTW - Laura's original query was fine - because it asked for a technical answer to a technical question - which would assist Laura. The problem arose when it became possible to identify who the other author is (and that happened as soon as the topic of the hub was identified)
My recommendation would be to delete from this thread anything which identifies another individual. Then do as Barbara says and just 'leave it be'.
As far as I know there is no way for me to remove a discussion or comment from a forum discussion... Is there?

Do you include a copyright notice in your articles? Why or why not?I never do this, but I see that a lot of folks on here do. Just wondering what the opinions are out there.

I knew this could happen, but was surprised by it this morning. I've been getting my hubpages accounts sorted out over the last week or so, and I moved some hubs from an old account I had here last year. Before anyone starts yelling about sockpuppets, I never came in the forums back then. I dunno,...

Anyone who knows SEO knows that Google prefers fresh content but when our newely published hubs undergo the 24 hour pending publication with a no index tag added to the robot txt our hubs loose their freshness by the time the no index tag is taken off therefore Google does not give our hubs the...

I wrote a piece about Scorpio Sun Sign People about 6 years ago when I was new here. Most of my main niche is astrology, and instead of contacting me civilly to ask if there was a problem, my piece that was on Exemplore was just pulled from the site. I had just edited it tonight because it's a good...

I know that this is the most asked question here, but I'd still really appreciate it if anybody answered.I've been on Hubpages for about 6 months now, and I've just published my 7th Hub, and I'm starting to write a few more. As of right now, I have 239 total views, and each Hub has roughly 36...

Now don't get me wrong, I totally love writing on Hubpages and being a part of the Hubbing community, but I have lost a little heart recently when one hub of mine on "How to Improve Male Fertility" had the ads disabled based on automatic filters. This problem I reported in order to have...
