I am trying to invivte a new nonhubber to see my hubs, and she is unable to so unless she signs up. She is quire leery about such things.
Is there any other way I can bypass this requirement, or convince her that she not need to write a thing on HP?
Sounds like your friend is having technical troubles or is not very computer savvy. Anybody with an internet connection can read a published hub (so long as their network is not blocking this site, for instance, many workplaces block certain websites so employees don't waste time on FB and Twitter, etc.)
It may be that she does not want to read your hubs and is using a flimsy excuse
Maybe you are using the wrong link? I would send her to your profile and she can browse from there. Here is your profile url >>> http://hubpages.com/@lorlie6
I also find people reluctant to come on HP. Many think if they click on anything it will cost them money. I think at this point clicking on ads is pretty dead anyway. Some of them are people who only go on the web to see pictures on their friend's Facebook pages, and that's the only computer function they seem to know. I have the same problem. Also, writers are usually readers, and your friend may not read much. I know, to a reader, that's a travesty, but for each his own.
I guess you could post a link to a new hub on Facebook now and then if she will go on there. Good luck.
I signed out and looked at your profile. I was able to see your hubs just fine.
Try sending her a hotlink to your profile in an email. If it's an issue of her not being tech savvy, that should be a foolproof way to get her there.
Unless you become famous, chances of getting many family members or friends to read your writing are slim even if they love to read. There's a sort of pervasive cultural assumption that what one writes is crap unless one is famous for it and sometimes still is crap even then.
Yes, she should be able to see the Hub as long as it's published. She doesn't need to sign up. I'm thinking there must be confusion on her part or the Hub hasn't been published. Is it a Hub that's already gone through the quality assessment process and has been published?
Also, that issue with the link could be it, as Susana pointed out.
Getting Friends and very close relatives to look at the Hubs or websites one spends so much time on is impossible. "Read the story about our dogs" does not even get a look. Comments! It is like a foreign language. My own kids in their early 30's have never said a thing about anything I have published.
After eight years I am afraid that they all think it is crap, But it is fun and interesting so I blog, write, take and share photos anyway.
paperfacets: I encourage you to keep doing exactly what you're doing, which is to keep writing about topics you're passionate about.
We never know with certainty why family and friends may not comment on our writing. Who knows? Maybe they didn't even read our work, although they may have had every intention to. Many people feel so overwhelmed with life these days -their responsibilities with family and work and trying to balance it all, financial stress, stress on the job, health concerns, etc. Their lack of response to our writing may mean nothing other than that.
Keep doing what you love!
Hi paperfacets,
It's hard to say why people we like/love won't read our work. My husband never read a word I wrote (and I wrote a lot). My son writes, and he's always complimentary and reads all my work on his tablet. It's fun to have another reader/writer in the family. Since I write about Astrology and other metaphysical topics, I think some friends may not really understand the topics, and think they are frowned on by their religion. But it's really BS, I think many people just don't like to read. Unless it's a text.
I post links to my pages all the time on Facebook, and they get a lot of traffic from non-hubbers. Can't you just send her a link to an article, or is there some important detail I am missing?

Do you follow hubbers without reading their writing first? If so how do you decide to follow them? On what criteria do you base their worthiness to be followed by you? There could be obvious answers but each individual can answer for themself.

Hi All, So, this might not seem in the spirit of hub pages comeraderie, but I am a little uncomfortable with having a particular member follow me. The name is ZAGOOTO, and he has no profile information, no hubs, but 11 followers. Who on earth is this person? Why is he "following" people...

Good morning, lovely Hubbers! After returning to writing on HubPages after a break for a few years, I've been thinking about writing goals. Ultimately I'd love to have around 6,000 articles completed on here but for me I know that's probably a dream! At best I can write around 4 or 5 a week due to...

I'm very timid when it comes to change if the change is not one of my own choosing, even if it is good change. Moving to HubPages was an upsetting experience for me, mainly because I felt the place we moved from would find a way to mess it up or that HP would treat us like illegal aliens.Only...

Dear Hubbers. I've recently noticed so many changes on Hubpages. I had no internet for a week and upon my return things look so different. I like the cleaner white pages with the underline beneath the titles. The column width seems narrower, while now advertisements show up on both left and right...

Before following someone, at least you should read his/her hub or profile. I think, there are many reason rather than his or her beautiful face to follow him/her.
