New CSS system rolled out

   Today we enabled a new CSS system for all the new sites (tatring, pethelpful, etc but NOT hubpages.com). This system should make us more productive going forward but there should be no visible changes. That said, we may have missed something so if you notice something please reply to this post or start a new one in Technical Questions. Examples of possible issues could be a link changing color, the spacing seeming off with an element on the page or the size on mobile being way too big (or small).

   Eight years... Excepting for two, I was generally booted out in less than a year; I understood. As for CSS, my obsolescence continues; though maybe I'll work up the energy to poke HP with a stick if I find something.

   Just a suggestion, I noticed that your category pages are responsive but the articles (hubs) are not really responsive when there are videos in them. We get a nasty looking scroll bar.
   
   Why not make the youtube videos responsive as well. Here's a sample of what I have on my site:
   
   <div class="ycontainer"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TAG" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen class="yvideo"></iframe></div>
   
   .ycontainer {position: relative; width: 100%; height: 0; padding-bottom: 56.25%;}
   .yvideo {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;}
   
   Of course the bottom padding is what looks good on my site, some testing will be needed here.

   It's very simple - if the content modules are not responsive then the site is not responsive.
   
   If YouTube modules do not resize then it's NOT a responsive site

      That's not the case here MM. If you open the article from a mobile device the youtube video works perfectly and it even resizes when you change from landscape to portrait.
      
      However, on the desktop size if I change my browser dimensions it doesn't resize. So it's either a CSS issue or it's not set to be responsive over a certain screen size.

         CSS templates resize automatically no matter what the screen size - it's not just about mobile devices. There are after all some very different sized large screens

            Have you worked with pure responsive CSS?  You can set it so that it modifies only for certain screen dimensions

               Yes - but why would I when you can work with CSS templates which resize for every dimension?
               
               Sure - your method is a way of explaining how the hub sites work - but that's not what's required is it?

                  Because I don't think HP uses ready made templates. Yup it was related to what I noticed.

                     If they're not using CSS templates they have comprehensively designed prior to implementation what on earth are they doing?
                     
                     Making it up as they go along?
                     
                     (i.e. I didn't mean templates pre-designed by anybody else. I meant that all sites which state they are fully responsive use pre-designed templates which are tested before being let loose on the public)

   Tim, I already noticed a difference that might be a problem. When viewing hubs on my iPad, Text on HubPages can be resized by spending two fingers on the screen in either landscape or portrait mode. But this function no longer works on the niche sites in landscape mode. The text stays small. However, in portrait mode I can enlarge the text this way, expect that if I try to make it too large it gets an error saying "a problem occurred with this webpage so it was reloaded."

      That then is a CSS template which is not fully responsive.
      
      Inadequate for purpose and in relation to the competition.
      
      I now write (proper magazine) articles and give talks on websites and social media for artists and the one big message I bang on repeatedly about to all those who are currently contemplating transferring existing sites or creating new sites from scratch is "make sure whichever site you choose for your content uses fully responsive CSS templates'.
      
      That means in
      * EVERY DIMENSION
      * on WHATEVER SIZE SCREEN
      * of EVERY DEVICE it is viewed on.
