So, he molested at least 4 boys, he paid to keep it quiet, he lied to the FBI...
And he's only gonna get (not even) 6 months in prison for violating banking laws.

But poor Hastert "has already suffered "profound humiliation and public shaming" and is in poor health". So, yeah.

As a representative of the party of "family values', the hypocrisy is increased in sheer magnitude over such people who do the same but do  not wear the 'goody two shoes' to trumpet before us all.

        True!

'...a strong message to the most heinous of criminals who prey upon our children – you will be punished to the fullest extent of the law", he once said.

That should be the case now with him.

Reilly? As a representative of the party?

The man is a deviate. And you want to paint all conservatives with the color of his actions?  Is your quiver so depleted that this is the only arrow you have? Clear the decks... let the cliques flow... one bad apple spoils the barrel, and one reprobate conservative makes the loaf. Hurrah for the Lefties, no such  hypocrisy in your ranks.

First, where did you get the idea that Hastart represents conservatives? Second, where is the party rally round" to save him? And thirdly, hang the guy by his testicles, right or left he is a pervert. That he happens to be a Republican is only a chance bonus to the Left.

Come on Credence2, this kind of pervert is part of everyday life. It has nothing to do with the party. The church may have a problem with pedophiles. but it is not defined by them. Just as the Republican party is not defined by Haskert.

Once you get past the labels, the reality of our world dictates that the scum of humanity is as much a part of life as is the cream.

What if Haskert were a key part of some great humanitarian legislation? Would you condemn those efforts because of his involvement?  Or would you acknowledge that as individuals humans can be a real shit?

GA, I follow your point, after all 'we' still have to live down "Weiner".

But, It is ironic that this  man, as House Speaker, was key in Bill Clinton's impeachment for basically moral turpitude, not much else. Republican expression of moral indignation?

When a leader of a political party does things like this, particularly when that party is always lording the moral highground over our heads constantly, well I am going to hold him and his party to the higher standards that they themselves confess to.

I am going to hold the priest and the church to a higher standard than an attendee at a Hollywood stag party when everything is otherwise equal. Because, who are the ones doing the 'preaching'?

Yes, we all  have to live with the scum, but the holier than thou GOP makes it clear that there is none of that among their God fearing adherents. The libs are human and can admit to  and accept the fact of the existence of human frailty as part of life.

I don't paint all conservatives as perverts, well most of the time. It is unfortunate that a bad example given from a leadership position will  taint the organization, that is many times unfair, but often true.

            Well yes, there was that...

"when that party is always lording the moral highground over our heads constantly..."

            and that...

"... the holier than thou GOP..."

            uh, yeah, that too.

But as reluctant as I am to offer any defense for the Republicans, my point still stands. Painting the party with Hastert's color seems similar to painting all Muslims as terrorists because of the extremists of their ranks. Would you do that?

No, I did not say that all GOP are mad dog perverts. I simply said that they speak in terms of such lofty morals standards, they have to be more careful when one of theirs falls from their pedestals.

I hadn't even heard of Hastert before, but I am glad he has been exposed.

There are the Ted Cruz's sex scandals that have come to light recently.  Although, he hasn't been accused of rape by several different women like Bill Clinton.

Some people are above the law.  While some get a slap on the hand instead of a real punishment. The law should be enforced equally on everyone.

As corrupt as politicians are and the love of money goes...

Today, Dennis Hasterte was sentenced  to 15 months in prison. The judge called the former House Speaker "a serial child molester" who tried to cover up his abuse with hush money.

Hastert told the court he was "deeply ashamed" that he "mistreated" students.

A disgrace of the criminal justice system.
