Are We Allowed to Ask for Feedback on Hubs if We Aren't New?

    Is it allowed to ask for feedback if we aren't new and our hubs have passed QAP, but our hubs are being rejected by the niche sites? I've seen hubbers get bashed by other hubbers for asking for feedback in the past and I'd like to avoid that, if possible.

    My most boring food hub was chosen for Delishably and I have four equally boring recipes and twelve much more interesting food hubs that are getting left behind. My two highest traffic craft hubs moved to FeltMagnet, but ten others (a couple of them editor's Choice hubs) are also getting left behind. Four of my middle-of-the-road hubs moved to PetHelpful, but several, including one I think is better than those moved (and it's been stolen a bunch of times so other people must think it's good), have also failed to move.

    The fact is that most of my hubs are getting left behind and I doubt I'm alone in that. So far, it looks like about five percent of my hubs are making the cut and I may be doing better than some in that regard. Why not pitch in and try to help each other so that more of HubPages makes it to niche sites and survives?

    So, can we post hubs, one at a time, choosing the one we think most fits a niche that hasn't been chosen for it, and get advice from our peers on improving it?

      Since there are no known specific criteria or established guidelines for what makes a Hub get chosen for one of the niche sites, how do you expect people to be able to tell you how to improve your Hubs in order to get selected?

        We don't know what criteria staff is using to choose hubs, but we do know how to help each other improve our writing. I get that you believe someone like me has nothing to offer, but I don't see the other writers here like that. I think we can help each other.

        I don't have the ability to see my own writing errors as well as I can see other people's errors because my brain sort of just fills in what I intended to say and mean as I read my own material. I miss things like adjacent word duplications and even sometimes miss words I've left out that a reader unfamiliar with the piece might notice. I've heard other people also have these problems.

        When I'm writing a piece to submit it to a paying market or for a client, I sometimes pay an editor to look for such errors and to tighten up my copy. Editing and proofreading improve every piece. It would be foolish to pay an editor more than most hubs are likely to earn when we could just help each other out a little on a volunteer basis.

        If you think generally improving our hubs so they meet higher standards won't improve their chances of getting chosen for niche sites, it tells us everything we need to know about your opinion of those doing the choosing.

          I think 90% of all people have exactly the same problem!   That's why there is work for proof readers, and why spell checkers are so popular.  I know I had to learn how to "switch off" and proof read my own work when I was working as a secretary, it wasn't an easy skill to learn.

      I too, wonder about your query. And I also am asking you and others that when we publish our hubs, and the box pops up so we, can by choice, share (that) hub with our followers, but HP issues a mild warning about doing this action as it is not appreciated by followers.
      So why give the option if most of us, who love to share out materials with my followers, I would hope that my followers are not vexed at my caring for them that much.

      Not having a Hub chosen doesn't mean it's been rejected. In most cases, that Hub simply hasn't been looked at yet. We are making the first pass based on a mix of quality and traffic, plus a few other factors, so nowhere near every Hub has been evaluated for the site.

      My advice is to wait and see which Hubs end up being chosen when we go back to review the majority of Hubs. You can also email us at team@hubpages.com for feedback on a specific Hub if you'd like advice, though we're extremely busy these days so it might take a few days to get a response.

        So the answer is no, we aren't allowed to use the forums to get feedback to improve our hubs unless they are rejected by QAP?

          I do not think she said no, just wait and see. Maybe you are better off spending your time working on new material.
          By the way, most of my hubs were selected for a niche site but I was curious about why some were not. Since that time, HP has come back and started looking at others that were not selected, and started adding a few. Those that were not chosen have poor traffic, so maybe that is something that they consider. If that is the case, those other hubs will probably never be considered.

    I've asked for help and gotten it. You don't have to be new to get feedback.

    Also, just because your hub hasn't been chosen to be moved yet does not mean it isn't going to farther down the line.  They are just doing the first run to populate the site, then they will come back to get more.

    You are more than welcome to use the forums for feedback--even if your hub passed the QAP. Perhaps you could organize other Hubbers and look at each other's hubs. We would love for you to update and improve your hubs. If we don't need to edit them, they can be moved on sites quicker. We have a lot of hubs to edit.

    You can check out our editorial guidelines for a few parameters. Like I said in another forum post, just being featured isn't enough.

    Also, take a look at the hubs on the site where you'd like your hub to move and the quality of that site. If you have had hubs moved, you should know the quality level that we are looking for.  It's not a mystery:  Well written. No spammy elements (only useful products and links and not keyword stuffed). High quality media. Useful information written for the reader.  If you tighten up your hubs now it will make the process a lot smoother for everyone.
