Hi Hubbers,
I'd like some help with passing the Quality Assessment Process. Will you please give feedback on my Hub Free Halloween Spider Crochet Patterns. What can I do to improve? Thanks!
It's a shame, because it's a cute hub, but these kind of linking articles are considered spammy because they are not complete in themselves - it depends on links to make it work. If it was a hub with several of your own patterns, that would be fine, but essentially, all you've done is created a directory.
This is what I'd call a curated list of useful resources - which is a type of article that can be highly successful online these days.
Unfortunately HubPages doesn't like them and it's hard to get them approved, because there are too many links to outside websites for its taste.
I agree with Marisa. Google likes these pages and so do people that crochet. The exact pattern they like can be found quickly. I haven't had trouble with this type of page. The rule is that you can only link to the same site twice. If you have more than that, it could be the problem.
If Hubpages doesn't approve the page, I suggest starting your own blog. If you do, let me know and I'll give you a link from my website.
Which would not be a problem if links opened in a new page. I don't understand why they won't do that; it would increase page view duration.
I often want to refer back to the original page to see what they suggest next. Toggling back and forth between the original and each successive links, losing the first page to go back and lose the next page etc..., is stupid.
I am happy to have 3-10 pages open on the same subject at one time. I am sure the crochet pattern folks would like to have 3-4 pages open at the same time to see which one best suits their needs - maybe they will crochet 4 or 5 different spider designs!
I agree. It is something for Hubpages to think about changing. Or is there a way we can do this ourselves?
Thank you for your feedback. I've written a couple of articles like this and those didn't have a problem getting featured, so I'm a bit confused...
Check for more than 2 links to the same site. They also don't like linking to business sites. When ever I linked to Red Heart, I'd get a notification that it was a spammy link.
Some more thoughts.
At the moment, if you look at the Hub there is a lot of white space between some of the sections. That's because the photo takes up more space than the paragraph next to it. Perhaps you need to "beef up" some of the paragraphs so they match better.
Also bear in mind that the great majority of readers view our Hubs on mobile devices, so try previewing the Hub on Mobile View and see how it looks. HubPages wants us to focus on making Mobile View look good, since that's what most readers see.
I think Barbara may have a point about the multiple links to domains. Even two to the same domain can cause trouble if you've got lots and lots of links in the article. If the photo is from the same link as the pattern, then I'd suggest not hyperlinking the Source in the photo capsule (i.e. just use the Name field but don't paste in the URL). You'll instantly cut the number of links in half.
