   Why do some people fear & even fear & fight the continual progress of America?  Instead they view such progression as inherently evil with the purpose of "destroying, even ruining" the American fabric.  They even want to return to the "olden, golden" version of America where everyone was defined & was in his/her respective places & those who were deemed "problematic" to American culture & society were "rightfully" demonized, even marginalized in their eyes.  Your thoughts?

      This reminds me of a new manager we got once in an office I worked in. He demanded that we stop using a specific word program and use another. He demanded we stop using a specific database corporate had devised to keep track of jobs and subs used on them in order to use outlook instead. I assumed he knew why and switched to the new programs.,Neither proved as useful or efficient. A year or two later I was bumping through the old data base gathering info since the other branches still used it, sent some printouts to one of the PM's and the manager got interested, looked at the spreadsheets, liked what he saw and suggested everyone take advantage of the program.
      
      Sometimes, life consists of change for change's sake. It is not always the better course.

         In the Army we used to refer to a new commander's tendency to change things just for the sake of change as his need to "pee on every corner."  OMG I got here just in time to save everyone from disaster!  Sometimes the only disaster was his arrival.

         LOL!  I had a similar situation at an ultra conservative company in Silicon Valley - it was hilarious!
         
         My coworker secretary was a classic BI+CH.  She even snapped at our bosses!  We needed to back up the data on our Macintosh computer hard drives once a month.  This was before Microsoft, so Macintoshes were the only computers that used a mouse.  The company spent $140 on backup software.  When my coworker caught me dragging icons to the backup floppy disk, she yelled at me, demanding I use the software instead.  She refused to listen to my explanation that it wasn't necessary.
         
         Guess what?  The software didn't work!  Fortunately we hadn't deleted the information, so we could back it up the old fashioned way.
         
         I am ALL for progress - but I believe in the Hawaiian saying that we should do what needs to be done, instead of wasting time and effort on nonsense.

      "The continual  progress of America ".........    Because that "progress " by  definition alone is the  basis of continued intellectual bias of the new left in America ,       Let's get something clear ;      This continual progress  that  pseudo -intellectuals spout forth with constantly , Is nothing but  a recipe of  the past evolutions in politics .   And make no mistake , there is a absolute recipe in the evolution of political   progressions  .     And it always ends up in ,- for lack of a better definition of the political  state of any  country - Socialism !
      
      But that IS EXACTLY  what liberals want in America isn't it  .    I wish a liberal would just  admit it , - Socialism .    What you want  is but  a nation bent upon   entitlements , economic entitlement , a nationalized policy of " free stuff ", from education to  income .     It IS all about the "Me"   of the liberal populace ,To todays left ,  it IS  all about the political restructuring of  total selfish-isms  !

         That is in error, a large portion of the change in those 50+ years past are cultural and socio-political. YOUR Truth is just an subjective observation.
         
         When you look at old films that attempt to predict the future they marvel at anticipated technical advance and development, but overlook social changes in society. Case in point: have you every seen the animated cartoon, "The Jetsons"?
         
         Does the sun go around the earth, are women intellectually inferior to men? At one time those ideas were truth. Well, the only truth is that time changes space and what was once true in any aspect of human endeavor under the sun can change as well.....

               Your ability as a mere mortal man to discern the absolute truth is questionable. Why are those that believe as you be given any more credibility than the sixteenth century clerics' views of astronomy and earth's central place in the universe?
               
               How many other beliefs considered as facts and truth are erroneous and are you perfectly qualified to discern between these? I doubt it, as no person can.
               
               Can you prove that you viewpoint is truth rather than just another form of heresy?

                  Although I consider the post you are responding to a little creepy (don't know what good 'there is no equality and diversity is not a strength' could mean). But, I'd have to agree with them on one point. There can be only one truth. We may not know what it is, we may never know, but truth in a universal sense could only be one thing. It cannot be subjective.

                     That is the kicker L to L, who among us is so brilliant to discern this 'absolute' truth? If any one or all of us were so smart, we would have no need for philosophers, scientists, etc. The truth may be there but theissue is man and his lack of discovery, imperfect grasp or understanding of it, leading to a plethora of different observations and interpretations.

   When folks harken back to the good old days they forget that 40 years ago women and blacks still suffered from a lack of opportunity (not to mention a lack of protection from abuse), the majority of college students were white men, a diagnosis of cancer meant you were going to die, young men could be drafted into military service (and we were in a war 50,000 of them would not come back from), we didn't have seat belts in our cars, people littered and thought nothing of it, smoking was rampant and allowed everywhere - and to make matters worse - the south didn't have air conditioning.

               Equal opportunity if not equal outcomes is what is going to allow us to get along. If you are advocating some natural hierarchal standard not supported by merit, talent and work, then this natural superiority thing will fail and it adherents condemned to face the guillotine. All aristocrats desiring a permanent structural advantage for themselves will find themselves sleeping with one eye open.You can talk about your idea, but there will be no peace for anyone under it.                      I qualified that universal equality concept. That equality based on talent and desire to persevere and apply ones self. Of course, a Down Syndrome child would not be able to compete with most of us. Then, we rely as a civilized society on charity toward those that cannot compete due to no fault of their own.
                     
                     Inequities exist and always will, but the proper attitude is to limit non merit based advantages to a minimum.

                     In the eyes of the law and the Constitution we are all equal, it is a given that everybody differs in ability and stamina and determination. Nature does not take in the fact that the law is to take precedence. Regardless, the society is less homogenous and diversity is the natural outcome of that. Whether you believe that it is valid or not is irrelevant, it still IS.
