It saddens me that Democrats have lost their Presidential election 2016. The unpleasant event set me reflecting on what lies at the root of it . What is the principal factor that happens to underlie America's periodical swinging between the Democrat regime and the Republican regime every four or eight years ? From the communistic viewpoint, it happens to owe its origin to the fact that America, like any other capitalist society, is divided into classes with conflicting interests. You cannot please each of two people when one of them's interests are diametrically opposed to the other's, right ?

There really is no "swing" either way.  It's just the skills of a particular campaign.  The country is equally divided and has been for years.  This will continue for another generation.  The GOP will change but not in the way people think.  The Rand Paul / Paul Ryan libertarian wing of the party will eventually win out over the social conservatives because that's where American politics is changing: the social issues are taking on less relevance.  By mid century, no one will be discussing abortion or equal marriage.

Ron Paul is advising Trump to resist the neocons and the shadow government elites. Rand is just like his father.  Good honest people!

I think Paul Ryan will need to be moving on, he wasn't loyal to the GOP nominee and showed his elite colors.  Sabotage comes to my mind, which is something Trump needs to be keenly aware of and I believe he is.

ADDED:  Ryan was caught in Wikileaks emails with Hillary's camp.

I don't think it's a swing, either. Hillary won the popular vote. Things have been going downhill for the rural areas, and they wanted change. The irony is that Trump has no idea what it's like for the working class and farmers. His agricultural advisors are loaded with people from big agribusiness.  People are always afraid that someone will raise their taxes (and I would point out that the econonmy usually does better under Democrats). And, the alt-right has drummed up a big fear of immigrants, and that energized a lot of people who didn't usually vote.

I think they're channeling George W's economic policy.

I do think the perception of willy nilly spending and the continual rise of the deficit lured many away from the democratic message of the need for every increasing social programs without some reasonable indication of where the money would come from.  But, it was definitely an anti Washington corruption and cronyism message also.
