Think I just lost my Adsense account

Not sure about this, but I'm trying to change my address from a UK address to my South African address.
When I moved from the US to the UK, I closed my US account once I left the US and applied for a UK account. I am now in South Africa and I need to close my UK account.

I have tried several times to do this, and Ihave eventually asked for help and been told that I have lost my Adsense account because I applied for it when I lived in another country. That is absolute rubbish. The only thing is that it is so complicated and I have had so much on my plate that I didn't change it immediately.

Adsense sent me a pin number to a friend I shared with. We fell out because I didn't like her husband. She didn't forward the pin number to me, and I haven't been able to verify the account ever. I emailed her ages ago, but never received a reply.

Also because I very seldom go to my Adsense account, I didn't notice that a pin was required (I had apparently reached a certain threshhold).

Some guy who is the number one commenter on Adsense said that I've lost my Adsense account becausee I applied for it with a false address in another country. He said to kiss my Adsense account goodbye.

    Any hope?

If not. I guess it's goodbye hubpages as well. Sad. I really enjoyed it this last while

So sorry to hear your troubles with Google.  I had a similar problem because I hadn't taken the time to update my account in the last couple of years.  They closed my account with just over $10 in earnings (yeah!  I'd finally made it!)  and said I had to verify my address.  Only problem was I had moved prior to their closing my account but had never updated my address!  '

Long story short:  I sent a message and called them.  They couldn't reopen my account, however they were able to send me a new verification pin and then I had to reapply for a new account.  Since I did this they transferred the balance from my old account to my new account.  No money lost.  smile  Still haven't made payout yet, but I'm working on it!

That's sad. But if that's the way it is. Why not just apply for a new Adsense account from South Africa? If it's for something so silly as the reason you specified, I would just try re-applying. I wouldn't bother bringing up the past issues as they need to stick to their terms for all cases and can't treat your case as a special one.

Because you're supposed to close your old account in the other country first. I did think of doing that, but was scared that would really piss them off. smile

Don't you have some sort of proof that you lived at the old address? Try using that to prove that it was where you lived at the time you applied and the code was sent only after you moved away.

I told the guy that he could check my google maps, etc. Believe it or not, Google maps traces you wherever you are with your phone, so there is a completely journey of where I've been.  Yes, of course, I can prove it, but he says it's irrelevant - just the fact that the pin is now essentially to unlocking the account. In order to get a new pin, I have to put in a new address. Technically, I suppose one an put in the address of someone willing to do it, but that actually is fraud, and I don't want to go there.

I will say one thing that every single time I deal with people on Adsense or on Google, I have never met such rude, arrogant people in my life.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. Companies like Adsense and eBay are completely inflexible, and have totally inadequate support staff who are trained by rote - so I do fear for your chances of getting this resolved.  Good luck though.

It does make me very glad that I didn't go down the same path.  When I moved countries, I did not tell Adsense or any other internet companies that I had moved.  I didn't see the need:  they never send me anything in the mail.  The only disadvantage was that Adsense were paying me in the wrong currency, of course, but I earn mainly through the HP Earnings Program so it was scarcely an issue.

I would delete this comment. Google might not be the Stasi just yet but the universe does not need to know this stuff.

If you switch from threaded to chronological (top right screen) you will see who is talking to who.

I am not worried about it.   I realised within a very short time that the move wouldn't be permanent after all - in the end, I just had an extended sabbatical.  So in fact, if I had started the process of moving to a UK account, I would've been kicking myself.

I've been looking through Adsense regulations and they talk about changing your "payment country", not country of residence.  I can't see anything that says you MUST change your payment country if you move.  I was happy to let all my payments go to my Australian account, which I kept - so even if I had moved permanently, I can't see where I would have been breaking any rules.  Happy to be corrected if you know otherwise.

So what you said was untrue. That's OK then. But why say something that is untrue that could lose you your adsense account?

Anyway, I can see from this thread that I am fully recovered from two tedious illnesses in a row. All of my normal misanthropy has returned together with my capacity to think straight. Time to do some work.

No, at the time I moved, it was true.  But like I said, I'm not convinced it would be "illegal" anyway.

Violating Google TOS really is not worth it. There are so many stories like Tess's. And every one of them is sad.

The only suggestion I have for Tess is to start a post in the Google product forums (if not already done) and hope someone comes up with something.

My account has not been disabled. I went to the Google forum columns to explain that I couldn't close my UK account because I needed to supply a pin sent to my old address in the UK and I was no longer living there. In order to open a new account in my new country, I have to close the old account in the old country. He accused me of being fraudulent, i.e. setting up an account in the UK without living there and that I could kiss my Adsense account goodbye because it was fraudulent to open up an account in one country while living in another country.

As Marisa can vouch, I was very much living in the UK at the time (as was she), and I most certainly was living there when I opened it. I just never go around to closing it immediatley, and by the time I got to doing that, for various technical reasons, it was no longer possible.

I reckon you need to direct your efforts through the Google products forums. I wouldn't give up until all possible avenues are exhausted. Sorry, I am not much help.

It was the Google forum products that told me my account was lost for life. The person who responded to me was a prize pig and clearly was just out to insult, belittle, and give as much bad news as he could. So I'm not going anywhere near that forum again. I may, however, write to google if I can find a postal address. smile
