Could somebody plse help. My blogger blogs receive mostly South African traffic. I need US traffic
especially if I want to succeed with Amazon and other affiliate companies. My blogspot blogs are co.za instead of .com. How can I change at least half of my blogs.
Your blog is "Columbus Voyage and Scurvy," correct?
https://columbusvoyageandscurvy.blogspot.co.za/
https://columbusvoyageandscurvy.blogspot.com/
https://columbusvoyageandscurvy.blogspot.ca/
With Blogger, the TLD changes based on the location of the reader. E.g., a Canadian who finds your blog via a search engine will see ".ca" while a person in the UK will see ".co.uk" (unless they access it via a direct link where you have .co.za.) See that all the links above go to the same site. It's not a big deal that your Blogger blog's default is .co.za, what you really need to do to get more US traffic is to write about subjects that people from the US are specifically interested in. I don't think scurvy is of particular concern to Americans.
While the Amazon program makes more money for websites that target American shoppers, I don't think you should write off your South African audience. Surely there are ways to monetize your South African traffic by writing about things that are of particular interest to them. Maybe if you build up enough audience and traffic you can get local businesses to advertise. What do people in SA typically buy online? Do shops that sell those things online have affiliate programs?
Thank you for your reply. The one on scurvy is one of the blogs. The reason I wrote about scurvy is to remind people of the fact that the cure was known for this disease about 180 years before it was finally implemented on the sailing ships. So many people died that could have been saved. I have ten blogs all on alternative health. Also a wordpress.com blog that you can't monetize unless it is upgraded. Only a small amount of South Africans have the buying power that US citizens have. Or some have the buying power but don't buy on line.Just to get your paypal account connected to your banking account is a mission. I have had a Barclays and then a FNB account for the last 40 years. I worked for them for eight years and even I have not been able to connect my account to my paypal account. Anyway, not worried about that at the moment, as my deposits into paypal is small. I use it to pay for things online, and don't need the money to go into my account. However that will change when I receive large amounts. I'm getting off the subject but just want to explain the situation with the banks. Of course if you work and your income is large, it is another story. I have enough quality adverts on my blogs with adsense but would like to join an affiliate company as well.
Thank you again. So if I choose my topics carefully and get more search engine wise, I should get more US traffic.
Anita, that's a very strange topic to pick for a blog. Do you understand how Blogger works?
A blog is a whole website. There's no point in creating a blog on Blogger if you have only a handful of articles on that subject.
If you want your blog to be a success, you must write lots of posts - say, one every two or three weeks, and you'll need to keep doing that for at least a year. When you stop posting regularly, your traffic will drop. Could you write that much about that one narrow subject?
You do need to choose a specialist subject, but it needs to be broader than that, or you'll run out of things to write about before the blog is big enough to have an impact.
A blog takes a fair bit of effort so if you have more than two or three, you won't be able to keep up with them and they'll all fail.
Hi Marisa, I agree with you on that one. When I opened my first blog, I was new to blogger and what I thought was posts was in fact more blogs. That is how I landed up with 10 blogs. Thank goodness they are all on the same subject. Last night I combined 3 blogs into one blog, and another 4 blogs into two separate blogs. It was so simple to do and has taken a lot of stress from me. I still have one blog to merge then I will have 5 blogs which I am sure I can handle as I only add posts of 200 words. Unfortunately you lose the views of the blogs that you merge with the others but I also discovered how to implement tags on blogger that I had not known about before. I am so relieved and happy, believe me.
On the subject of 'scurvy' which has now been turned from a blog into a post. I think the subject of "scurvy" is very important. Consider this. They knew what the cure was for approx 180 years, which was a change of diet and including lemons etc, that could last the 3 months of a sea voyage, and yet they let hundreds of thousands, of mainly men die a terrible death. Why, because they did not believe that a simple little lemon could be the cure. Today we have the same situation. People are dying by the thousands of cancer. They keep on with the same treatment. A few Doctors have turned to other treatment. Especially one Italian Doctor who has healed thousands with treatment of bicarbonate of soda. He believes that cancer is a fungus and should be treated as one. He has lost his licence but other countries are only to happy for him to treat their patients, as they can see the results. So yes, people should be reminded of scurvy.
I would recommend increasing your post size to 300 - 350 words. Once upon a time, shorter posts were better. Now, you're better off with more substantial posts.

Despite all that's gone on, I still consider HubPages my online home and the place where I'd prefer my content live. In fact, I've been extremely impressed and excited about the niche sites, and my traffic for Hubs moved over has looked really, really good. However, I still have concerns, namely...

How many of you have blogs and are they affected by google's new algorithm? Is it worth it having a blog and how do you make time for it along with hubpages?

I just noticed five of my hubs getting unfeatured due to traffic. I was expecting this for some time now since I never really got a lot of traffic in the first place. I've joined HubPages less than a year ago, didn't even start writing for the first month, so I was pleasantly surprised...

I started using this blogging link to send my own hubs out of the hub nest. Soon, as I was going to make comments for my friends list I ended up reading other good hubs and decided to share theirs on my blogs too. Then the blog idea started evolving to help promote more reads and...
