So We Don't Get to Moderate Our Own Comments Anymore Now?

I just saw something I find very disturbing. A HubPages employee published a comment that I was making a decision about on my hub.

Our moderation of comments on our hubs can be overridden by an administrator. A comment I'd set aside trying to decide if I should publish it on the hub or not was approved by an administrator. It added nothing to the discussion and it was just a bash against homeless people ending with a "clever" zinger. It didn't include swearing so I set it aside to think about it and get a second opinion on it. The hub is something teachers include in lesson plans and school kids really don't need to see abusive comments, but I want to be fair, so I was taking some time on the decision.

The way I see it, there's no point in setting comments to moderate anymore as staff can just override your decisions.

[edited to add] OK, I guess I got upset a bit early, we can still delete the comment, but it's not fun to have abusive comments published on my hubs for any length of time and the whole point of moderating comments in the first place is to avoid it.

I agree. The author should have complete control on comments.

I also agree, why should admin be able to override the hub writer's decision as to what canned can't be seen.

I think they deleted one someone wrote on one of my hubs that I never got the chance to see, I am not quite sure but I know I didn't delete it.

You should be able to resurrect comments HubPages has removed by going to your comment dashboard and selecting the drop down arrows until you find whether they unpublished it for being "spam" or unpublished it for being "low quality" and then hitting publish. I've only resurrected one comment which was long, heartfelt, and utterly on topic. Then again, I haven't checked my comment dashboard lately to look for things they've removed.

I've seen Admin Approve; however, I came across a hubber complaining that a comment was removed from the comment section of his article and given the status "Admin Denied"...The person who comment was removed is known for inciting arguments and targeting a particular writer. I'm think these admin approve/denied status is either their way of cleaning up the site and/or weeding out certain users (possibly black listed)

I just went to one of my hubs to approve a comment, and I saw another comment that had been approved by the admin. I had no problem with the comment, I would have approved it myself, but I hadn't noticed that it was there until I found it by accident. I usually like to respond to my comments on that hub, as people usually come there asking for advice.

If admin are going to approve comments for us, it would be nice if we were notified.

Hmm... I'm wondering now if this is the reason why a denied comment on one of mine was just re-approved... Good to know, about all of this. smile

As I recall this happens when admins find comments mis-identified by bots as spam.

*However* when they do this it should be set to send comments for approval, not to published them.

I notice a lot of personal opinions get taken out of my hubs, and they aren't mean spirited or "way out".  I don't think that's fair.

Surely 'delete forever' is respected? If it is isn't, it should be.

I think it is -- these are comments suppressed as likely spam before we ever see them.  Some are found to be incorrectly suppressed.

Holy christ. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

I checked my top hub and found 4 comments "Admin Approved"

This is garbage. If I wanted things automatically approved for me, then I wouldn't require comments to have my approval in the first place!

Thanks for starting this discussion, I found an admin approved comment on one of my hubs as well.  I wish they'd make it easier to find these comments, I had to look in my list of approved comments and do CTRL+F for the word "admin" to find it.  HP should add "Admin Approved" to that drop down menu if they're going to butt in and moderate comments for us.

That I totally agree with. Why allow us to decide if they are going to but in and change it?

They aren't changing comments you already screened, they are clearing comments you never saw because they were spam filtered.
