If you have already read the Updated Google Quality Rater Guidelines, then you understand how important it is that we be the change we want to see. On March 14, 2017 the guidelines were updated. This comes only 7 days after the infamous FRED.

I know how easy it is to complain. I have done my fair share. However, we must understand that Hupages reputation matters. If we want this community to be taken seriously, then we must show why we should be taken seriously.

Each of us can help build Hubpages reputation by being willing to read 146 pages, and asking ourselves how we can meet current standards. Each of us must be responsible for our content. Or, at least as many of us as possible.

If you have articles on niche sites, then you must make sure each one shows your expertise. If you still confused about what expertise is then I urge you to read the guidelines!

I am prepared to do my part in helping Hubpages be a reputable writing platform, are you?

I get what you mean with the morale thing, but I'm pretty sure they already are picking articles with expertise in niche for the sites that's the point right?

It is about the facts. The facts are in the guidelines. We should read them and thoughtfully apply the information to our articles.

I am just raising awareness that we should take pride in our community, and in Hub Pages. Yes, there are flaws, yes we must make constructive criticism. It is an attitude thing. Do we want to be part of the problem or solution?

If we don't take pride in our community and Hubpages how can we expect anyone else to? I was just hoping people would pledge to read the guide and take it seriously.

The world is full of negativity. I want to encourage people to reach for the stars. I love writing, and if this is the evolution of writing, then I am hopeful.

That doesn't mean we should ignore problems or be cheerleaders. There are lots of threads which purpose is to provide the opposition for change. I was hoping this thread could be positivity for progress.

No, I'm cool with that. I was just having an issue with some of the concepts. We should absolutely take this seriously, especially if there are any aspirations of making money as well.

Even after reading the new guidelines multiple times, I am more confused than I was before. I am also struggling with the concepts. I am now researching the language that might hold more significance than I first thought. The more questions I ask, the more questions are born. My brain hurts.

Mnn..I wouldn't read to much into it. It's paralysis by overanalysis sometimes. Just write the best you can and be creative, think outside of the box sometimes. Write, the write some more, then write again. Some of it will suck. Some will be good. Some of it will be great.

Your right! I already have a list of changes and a list of articles up for edit. I need to enjoy my weekend, and then systematically work through them. I have already edited many, but even now I can see where I can make improvements. It is exciting to have direction, but I can't let it overrun me!!

What guidelines do you mean specifically? Google updates? Niche site acceptance?

I was talking about the Google quality rater guidelines. But, we should read the niche site guidelines as well.

Hopefully, hupage staff reads them, too. Some things are out of our control but under their control. The Google quality rating guidelines are really important for both sides to know.

The Google. Don't read to much into that stuff. Don't let it drive you nuts.

Now everyone will jump in on how my advice is crappy..whatever I helped a Pagan Satanist with a featuring question last night when no one would touch it..I need bed. But seriously, be aware of the Google stuff but don't go crazy, you can't control what happens here either..all we can do is create the best content we can and keep learning about this beast we call online writing. Best regards, Jesse

@Melody. I had a fairly negative reply posted to this, not toward you but toward the general state of things after this update. I've decided to delete it because I feel like it took away from the positive vibes you're going for here. Instead I'll just say I agree that we could all do a little better, and reading the Rater Guidelines is a good start. smile

I saw it. Didn't really think it was negative, just more truthful.

Thanks. smile I just didn't feel like it helped the discussion. We're all frustrated. The Team is doing their best. No point in complaining. All we can do is keep on working.

I understand your frustrations. It is a part of human expression. It is ok. I work hard to keep my emotions in check. When I am truly frustrated I can not write. There are others who might have their muse when frustrated.

Emotions are a tool that humans use. We can not ignore the negative, but we can't ignore the positive either. Use your frustrations as a tool, just don't give up on something you love to do.

Melody, This is a great thread you started here, and I agree it's very important to read through those guidelines if we have a desire for success.

I read most of it yesterday when I found the link in the other forum thread, and realized it seems very much like it's a tutorial for MTurk reviewers to complete the QAP tasks.

Having the knowledge of these guidelines is powerful since it provides hints of proper things to do that can make it or break it with Google ranking.

I am always keeping my hubs up to date as changes become necessary, such as making them mobile friendly and removing two-column layout. However, there is so much more that needs to be addressed, as you pointed out, and these guidelines sure help.

Glenn, you are always an inspiration to me. You are more vigilant than most of us.

The guidelines show that there is no one size fits all solution. For example, one paragraph states that a broad topic needs more content than a specific one.

I also realize that titles have to be a perfect description of purpose. I rewrite for spelling and grammar, and for facts, but now I feel like I need to expand my understanding of purpose.

It is really hard, but now I know more about the ways that Google and Users would be willing to except my life experience as expertise. I believe I fit in the puzzle, I just have to grow with the technology, and learn where I fit in best.
