I've read some articles recently about the popularity of ad blocking apps that people are using on the web now..how will this affect our industry going forward? Would love to hear thoughts/opinions on this from everyone.
It's a vexed question. I use an ad blocker, as I find the plethora of ads that otherwise appear on my computer an irritating distraction. On the other side of the argument, I write a blog which has a a personal domain and I allow Adsense ads to appear on it - but I haven't reached the payment threshold because I don't receive clicks on the ads, presumably because other people are also using an ad blocker.
It's a very vexed question, I agree. I think most people are ok with a fair amount of advertising on pages as long as it's not overboard, at least I am. I think it's the obnoxious ads that redirect is where people get frustrated. Hard to say how many are using add blocking I've read somewhere between 10 to 20 percent use it on desktop and less on mobile..but who knows really.
It is a concern to all websites that depend on ad revenue. I also use an ad blocker, but mainly because of large websites. Websites like television news websites, CNBC and many other large websites. For some reason, they never got the word that too many ads, and popups that cover the article you want to read, is not they way to go.
Some of these websites have made it nearly impossible to even read a story or article without having the ad blocker on.
I also have several blogs and I make sure the ads never interfere with the reading of the website or articles, which should please Google also. And I make it a point to turn off my ad blocker when on others personal blogs and website.
I can turn my ad blocker on and off from the toolbar, which makes it easy.
I really don't know why so many major websites have ads, and popups all over their website, when they know it annoys those that are going to their website.
I've been using an ad blocker forever - mainly because of sites which don't apply good sense to where they place their adverts and what content they think it's OK to display.
I don't use adverts on my own sites - just Amazon associate text links (which generate income) - and they don't get affected by the ad blocker I use (and the sites are not an exception to the ad blocking!)

I'm not here to Cry! I'm not here to have someone else "fix" my situation. But I have been doing this for over 10 years now on HP and presently I am sitting here, wondering about how much power Google has over my income. You see, I am something of an EXPERT on one particular subject and...

To make myself more clear, there are some websites that can block readers from copying and pasting entire passages of text or photos. I know this will not stop all the article theft from plagiarism, but it may thwart some because they’re too lazy to spend the time to copy by hand. They’re more...

W.A.Leon posted this in another thread: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/02/ … -from.htmlBasically, Google just launched a Chrome extension that allows each user to block certain websites from appearing in their search results. Supposedly Google is going to monitor the results and use the...

What will happen if most people install AdBlock add on on their browsers? Already over 120,000 people have installed it on Chrome and far more on Firefox. This means the most effective means of earning is blocked for us and we will have to make do with just affiliate marketing. Makes sense?

I must confess that I am using Adblock. However, I turned it off for Hubpages and all its network sites. I notices that some websites have these popups that detect and tell people that their Adblockers are turned on and kindly prompt them to turn it off. Is it possible for Hubpages to have this...
