I've read some articles recently about the popularity of ad blocking apps that people are using on the web now..how will this affect our industry going forward? Would love to hear thoughts/opinions on this from everyone.

It's a vexed question. I use an ad blocker, as I find the plethora of ads that otherwise appear on my computer an irritating distraction. On the other side of the argument, I write a blog which has a a personal domain and I allow Adsense ads to appear on it - but I haven't reached the payment threshold because I don't receive clicks on the ads, presumably because other people are also using an ad blocker.

It's a very vexed question, I agree. I think most people are ok with a fair amount of advertising on pages as long as it's not overboard, at least I am. I think it's the obnoxious ads that redirect is where people get frustrated. Hard to say how many are using add blocking I've read somewhere between 10 to 20 percent use it on desktop and less on mobile..but who knows really.

It is a concern to all websites that depend on ad revenue. I also use an ad blocker, but mainly because of large websites. Websites like television news websites, CNBC and many other large websites. For some reason, they never got the word that too many ads, and popups that cover the article you want to read, is not they way to go.

Some of these websites have made it nearly impossible to even read a story or article without having the ad blocker on.

I also have several blogs and I make sure the ads never interfere with the reading of the website or articles, which should please Google also. And I make it a point to turn off my ad blocker when on others personal blogs and website.

I can turn my ad blocker on and off from the toolbar, which makes it easy.

I really don't know why so many major websites have ads, and popups all over their website, when they know it annoys those that are going to their website.

I've been using an ad blocker forever - mainly because of sites which don't apply good sense to where they place their adverts and what content they think it's OK to display.

I don't use adverts on my own sites - just Amazon associate text links (which generate income) - and they don't get affected by the ad blocker I use (and the sites are not an exception to the ad blocking!)
