My article was stolen!

   Hubpages, has informed me that one of my hubs has been posted to another site. I looked for myself and it was. Posted word for word.  I have filed a complaint with the DMCA, asking that the article be removed. What makes me even madder, is the fact that I am not given credit as the author. I know this has happened to other hubbers.  Can anyone tell me what was the outcome, if any?

         Thank you Sherry Hewins. I just want them to take it down. Especially, since they passed it off as their own and gave me no credit. Let's face it. I'm not making a fortune off of it so, credit would be nice.

      I've had more than a dozen scraped, out of around 700. Some sites have taken down the scraped content via the DCMA notice, others, especially international sites, don't care.

      It's very unusual for HubPages to email you to say your Hub has been copied.  How did you find out?

         They had a notification next to my article that had been copied and they had a link where I could view the site that had copied my work and it was word for word. Evidently, hubpages check for copied work or plagiarism.  Nevertheless, I filed a complaint to have the other site take the article down.

   I haven't heard this complaint in a long time.  HP learning center can help you sort this crime out.  I'm just glad to know someone on HP is still writing something worth someone wanting to steal.  Congrats!

   Hi Dana. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. It's happened twice to me, and both times the article in question was removed by contacting the website the thief posted it on and informing them of the pilfering.
   
   It stinks, but on the bright side, at least someone wants to claim credit for it, so it can't be half-bad, eh? Best of luck.

      Thank you Jeremy. I tried to look at the bright side of the fact that someone actually cared about my work to steal it. But, the fact that they gave me no credit for the work bothered me.

   Go here: https://www.whois.com/whois/
   
   Copy in the complete web address of the copyright infringer.
   
   Find the webhost company/service.
   
   Send the DMCA directly to them (either by email or via a contact form). You may have to go to the web host's own site to find a contact address.
   
   You are far more likely to have success getting it taken down when you bypass the site owner and go straight for the jugular, so to speak.

         You don't need to hope, you can make it happen by going directly to the webhost. 9 out of 10 times they will take it down because the site will be breaking the webhost's Terms of Service. I spent a year trying to get one site to remove my content. Then I went directly to GoDaddy, who hosted the site, and the offending pages were removed within hours. I don't waste my time contacting site owners.
