Are you allowed to curse on Hubpages?

When writing sometimes I like to put a little more emphasis on things. I do make some short stories that I would like to put on Hubpages but I do not know if cursing is allowed.

      Thomas,
I had a similar question a few months back and HP replied to me that a bit of MILD profanity is okay, but the super-duper God's-name-in-vain and assorted phrases are not permitted.
      Does this help?

Yes, as others have said, a little bit of profanity is OK. I once saw that someone had posted a hub titled "S**t  People Say About S**t White Girls Say." They wanted to know why the hub was rejected. I think the first shit would have been OK, but adding a second one in the title struck them out.

A little. The usual d@mn and F-word is what I usually go for in my short stories, if a bit of profanity is okay then that helps out. Also how much dark things can you put in a post? I recently posted a small chapter about a child who turns into a serial killer, it hasn't come down or anything so I wish to assume that it is fine.

As a general rule I never curse in a Hub because it is against the rules; it's against Adsense rules too. I don't take chances in that regard.

I haven't seen where it is against HP rule to curse. If you have, I'd appreciate a link. As far as Adsense goes, I have seen plenty of crude language on sites displaying their ads.

          4. RESTRICTIONS AND PROHIBITIONS ON USE

In Your use of the Service You must abide by the following restrictions and prohibitions on use. As a Service User or Author, You may Not:

Publish Hubs or Hub or Author Content that include any content or links that are pornographic, defamatory, libelous, tortuous, vulgar, obscene, invasive of privacy, racially or ethnically objectionable, hateful, promotes or provides instructional information about illegal activities, promotes any act of cruelty to animals, or is otherwise offensive.

And  #4 over here in the FAQ: http://hubpages.com/faq/#what_is_allowed

And over here in the Learning Center: https://hubpageshelp.com/standards/Lear … d_22732535

          On Adsense:

          https://support.google.com/adsense/answ … _profanity

But I'm surprised you haven't heard of the rule before, it's kind of a commonly accepted thing on this site that profanity is a no-no, it's been discussed on the forums. I recall a fairly recent discussion in which we were talking about not approving comments with profanity or other items against TOS. As for Adsense, I've seen people that do all kinds of things that go against Google rules, so there are discrepancies there. At any rate, I follow the rules to the extent of erring on the side of caution, so to speak.

It says no "excessive" profanity, not no profanity at all.

Okay, I guess I'll qualify what I said so I don't have to talk about this minor issue anymore. Excessive profanity is not allowed so I don't use it at all to be safe. Okay. There you go.

I read a hub from a new hubber today that contained the "c" word. I am sure it won't be published for long. I had one hub have ads disabled because the word "orgy" was in the url...even though I changed the title the ad ban still stands. Many of the ads appearing on hubs are more offensive than any content.

Hi Thomas. I recommend against it, though I have seen some published Hubs use it before. I figure why take the risk, but at the same time if it's used in moderation and truly adds something to the article, give it a try. You can always edit it out if needed.

But like Jodah says, there are limits. I can't imagine anyone getting away with the "c" word for long.

Yeah I haven't cursed in any of my hubs except for one I believe. However in a few I did use some rather I suppose you would call them offensive, My "Memoir of a Madman" has some stuff to do with murder and I go into some pretty deep detail but I hadn't gotten anything that says I have broken a rule or anything.

You could censor the words in the text with symbol characters like #$%^&£$! . Then leave it up to the imagination of your your readers what you intended to write.
