Or, at least, disable comments on them.

Bev, TheRaggedEdge, she say, close the comments!

Old comments should be deleted. or closed. This frees up space for new comment and keeps everything up-to-speed.
You have got my vote on this! Thank you.

I'd prefer they weren't deleted. It's interesting to look back at how events have unfolded here over the years. Old threads likely draw a fair amount of search traffic as well.

However, I fully support the idea of locking or archiving them so they can't be resurrected.

But I'll also add that, for me, of all the annoyances that occur in these forums the dredging up of old threads is a relatively minor one. If HP is going to put effort into changing the forums, I'd much rather see non-HP related threads (word games, jokes, OT discussions, etc) moved somewhere else.

I hate it spending time reading a post only to discover that it's a post from as far back as 4 years ago. They should be closed for comments and put into an archive of the year they were written in. I think posts grow old very quickly. So I definitly support this petition, because I really don't care if someone got a nasty comment 5 years ago.

I think that setting related discussions to show only posts from the last 3 months would make a huge difference to the number of older posts that are bumped.
