Shooting the Eclipse on August 21,2017

   Do any of you plan to shoot the eclipse on August 21, 2017? If so, would you explain what equipment that you will use and how you will proceed with your plan?

      I will, but with only a (good quality) point and shoot.  I've spent some time playing with the settings and think I know what I want to do.
      
      I did see a comment somewhere - DO NOT, under any circumstances, allow a camera to take the experience away from you.  DO NOT spend those two minutes fiddling with a camera - if you can't have it set up and accept whatever comes out then don't shoot at all.  Sounds reasonable to me.

         You should use a solar filter. The sun could damage your sensor. Also, if you have  a screen, use that instead of looking through the diopter at the sun.

            Yes, I have a screen.  If I can't find a large filter (so far I can't) then I'll cut up and use one of the solar glasses I bought.

               I have a variable solid neutral density (ND) solar filter , but I'm in the wrong place this year.  Last time I just made my own home-made viewer from a FedEx packing tube box so that the next door neighbor's kids could see the shadow in the viewer.
               
               Never look directly into the sun - not even with solar glasses.

                  The center of totality is about 50 miles from my home - with some friends and family we rented a small group campground only about a mile from the centerline.  We'll be the only ones in the area, and almost full totality period.
                  
                  Really looking forward to it.  It's something I've always wanted to see and now we've got a front row seat!

                     I think that the area that I am in will only see a partial eclipse. I need a jpeg of a full eclipse with the sun's corona in full flare for an artistic rendering for a Fairy Photo shoot. If you achieve this, could I have a jpeg to play with for an art piece?

                        You may.  But I really doubt that anything I get with my little point and shoot is going to be very good.  I'll let you know.
