Playboy to go "clean?" Say it ain't so, Hef!

   The famed skin mag will soon be showing less skin in its print edition. In a seemingly backward response to competition from wall to wall (free) Internet smut, Playboy Enterprises announced this week that though they will continue to feature "provocatively posed" women in the magazine's photo spreads, as of March 2016, the models will no longer be fully nude. The change is part of a sweeping new "modern editorial and design approach" at the magazine that they hope will appeal to a wider audience.
   
   ...I guess from then on, guys who claim that they "only read Playboy for the articles" will be telling the truth!!
   
   Quite frankly, I'm puzzled as to the logic behind this move. Does Playboy think that now they'll start picking up younger readers, who perhaps were not old enough to legally purchase the "dirty" version of the mag, and bump up those circulation numbers? If they seriously think that the "millennial" demographic still buys actual magazines, then ole Hef must be even more out of touch than I thought.
   
   (Mr. Burns voice) "Eh? Circulation's dropped again due to this new fangled inter-web you speak of? Pish, tosh! We'll turn those young rapscallions into new readers by dropping free copies of our periodical from the air! Quick, Smithers, to the dirigible!"

      This was the same magazine that my brother and I, as boys, found on the upper shelf of my dad's bedroom closet. All airbrushed and no pubes back in the day. The shock quality of nudity is long past, now the most interesting centerfolds are of celebrities that you would think would not show any skin to the public, ie (Condolezza Rice, Hillary Clinton).
      
      The times, they keep on changing. No one would have ever thought, but these glossies are now consigned to the world of the buggy whip.

   The logic is that nudies are free all over the internet and you can't compete with that in print, so downgrading to not fully nude (no exposed vulva) will get them more widely distributed and shelved at eye level in mainstream stores alongside other lad mags with partially clothed pinups--HQ, Maxim, FHM etc.  Mags that Millennial men are actually buying in droves. They have also launched a website that is doing fairly well for the fully nude stuff.

   I read earlier today that not all of Playboy's foreign editions will be following the Home Office's no-nudity lead next year.
   
   Supposedly the office of the Mexican edition in particular was flooded with calls from concerned readers when the news broke about the change (it seems that printed media is still a pretty big deal in Mexico, because fewer people have access to the internet), but they were reassured that the Mexican Playboy will continue with business as usual.
   
   So I guess this means that in the near future, guys will be telling their wives, "But honey, I read Mexican Playboy... ummmmm, for the articles...in Spanish! Yeeeeahhhh, that's the ticket! I'm trying to learn a new language! (cough cough)"

   ABC News is now reporting that the 29 acre Playboy Mansion property is for sale... for a mere $200 million. So hey, if anybody here wins that billion dollar Powerball jackpot this week, there's a hot deal for ya
   
   Part of the deal states that after the sale, Hef must still be allowed to live in the Mansion until he croaks... which, if you've seen any recent pictures of the man, probably won't be very long now.

      I wouldn't underestimate his ability to completely trash the place, nor would I overestimate his qualms about doing so.  Pass.  I'm going to buy a tiny island nation with my jackpot and turn it into into a gambling paradise that will replenish my descendants' coffers for generations to come.

         Actually I saw a TV news story about the sale last night, they talked to a local real estate pro who sez that the Mansion is pretty well trashed already; the guy actually said it was in "tear down condition"... I guess as Hef's empire has struggled, he's had to cut back on maintenance and upkeep.
         
         The land the Mansion is sitting on is probably more valuable than the house itself. The guy said that the $200 million asking price is WAY too much and that apart from its historical value, the property is worth $80 or $90 mil, tops.

   So Playboy is apparently two issues into its new "no nudes" format... has anyone seen it?
   
   I had been half heartedly planning to pick up the final "dirty" issue and the first "clean" one to keep around as curios/collector's items but totally forgot to even look for them!

   The Playboy Mansion has been sold for an undisclosed sum... to a 32 year old (!) financier whose other holdings include Hostess Bakeries (makers of Twinkies) and the Pabst Brewing Company.
   
   ...Playboy, Twinkies and Pabst? Suddenly I feel like breaking into a chorus of "These are a few of my favorite things..."
