Can somebody please tell me how to get rid of that annoying chat box that keeps showing up on my FB pages?  I have tried to close it, move it, eliminate it...to no avail.  It blocks part of what I'm trying to read and I HATE IT!  Help, please!

Try clicking on the blue line.  It should reduce in size to one line.

Thanks Sally.  When I went back into FB the chat thing was already reduced.  I'm guessing you have to click on hide or close and then restart FB for this to become manageable.  Very poor design methinks!

Just click the blue line if it appears again to close and if you want to open it to chat to someone, click it and it should open.  Bit of a hit or miss affair I do agree.

I think there is a 'chat off' somewhere in the settings. You can try that.

        I just did this:
        I opened the chat box.
I clicked the gear icon to open the chat options.
        I clicked "Turn off chat"
I selected "Turn off chat for all contacts."
        Done.

Note that if you later open the chat box you will automatically turn on chatting again.

I used to just grab the box with the mouse and drag it to the bottom of the page.
