Say something nice about the "other side"

It seems like there are at least a few new topics every day about "the horrible left did this" or "Donald Trump is being an idiot again" and a whole lot of negativity directed back and forth between liberals and conservatives.

I understand this is part of what people want to discuss and a healthy debate is always potentially enlightening. However, I wanted to take a break from the negativity as I'm a little worried that some people in particular are becoming a bit obsessive about it and it's becoming very unhealthy... so let's all try to throw some positivity at each other, shall we?

It doesn't have to be super lovey-dovey and we don't have to hold hands and sing Kumbaya, but perhaps you can point out an area where those on the opposite end of the political spectrum impress you. Or tell us about an area where you're open-minded and willing to learn something from them, or at least an area that you think they offer something of value and it would be beneficial to compromise.

I'm a liberal but I certainly don't think on the far left when it comes to every single topic and I'm sure most people feel the same way regardless of what side they're on... so go ahead. Say something you like about the other side's point of view. I dare you. wink

When it comes to tolerance and personal rights/freedom the liberals win hands down.

        Thanks for participating.

I’m thankful that conservatives often seem to be more fiscally aware and can provide realistic pushback when we pitch ideas that rely heavily on government spending/taxation.

I think the pushback is important when it comes to most things, actually. Balance is usually a good thing. I’m happy there are people who think entirely differently than I do even though it can be hard to communicate at times.

        Anyone else? big_smile

Very difficult, unless I come up with a back handed compliment... I am working on it

It’s very difficult to try to find the positives in something that you generally disagree with. But I think it’s important to try. Please do share if you think of anything!

          Now, I remember..

The only thing that conservatives and I have in common, that comes to mind, is the view about all of this transgender-unisex bathroom stuff. I also remember sparring with you on this very topic.

Right, I remember that as well. I can understand the deeper concerns that people have when it comes to that issue, like the precedent that is set for areas beyond bathrooms that may be a bit trickier.

I've been thinking and thinking and everything I come up with sounds like a "left-handed compliment" if you know what that means.  But Wilderness has inspired me.  When it comes to the defense of America, conservatives waste no time taking decisive action.

I do know what you mean. But I think you came up with a good point. Thanks for contributing. smile

OK - I'm going to try this one out.

The Democratic Party brings big ideas to the table (nationalized health care, free college for everyone, etc.)

This was slightly vague and I’m not certain that it wasn’t a bit of a backhanded compliment, but for the sake of the thread I’ll assume you did in fact mean it as a positive thing. wink

Liberals have been incredibly  successful and  vigilant in maintaining and integrating the entire education system from the ground up  .......to liberal ideology . That took a lot of time and activity .
