I have 20 bullet points. Because I like my readers to have reader-friendly material, I like to put this in two or three different text capsules.
However the hp numbering system doesn't give the option of carrying on where the last number left off. So I have several choices.
1. Have two or three sets of numbers all starting with one. This looks stupid.
2. Making each point a capsule which is stupid because some points are only a sentence long.
3. Use bullet points instead of numbers which means that if I call the article '20 reasons to..." nobody can see how many numbers there are.
4. Putting the entire lot in one text capsule This makes it overlong.
Anyone else get frustrated with this?
1. Could you
2. type the numbers in yourself, as I'm doing here (and ensuring one point extends beyond the line to see what that looks like).
3. And separate each point with an empty line.
4. Hmmm. The only thing I don't like much is the line extending underneath the number without being offset.
5. Also, you would have to manually change the numbers if inserting or deleting anything.
6. Well, just a thought.
It's very diifficult to get it to look perfect, and the problem with it is that it will leave gaps when viewed on different digital hardward.
Like k@ri, I've just given up and use bullet points instead. But yes, it does bug me that I've been forced into that.
I reckon it's probably possible to do this by editing the HTML of the text capsule and specifying a start value. Hubpages allows very little manipulation of HTML so it may or may not be possible. I'll do some research and see whether I can do it.
Ok so here's two lists:
1. Item 1
2. Item 2
3. Item 3
Blah Blah Blah
4. Item 4
5. Item 5
6. Item 6
This is what the HTML should be to implement it.
start = "4" tells the ordered list to start at 4. Unfortunately when you change the HTML to do this, the extra bit of code gets stripped out. I'm sure HubPages could add support for this, but maybe there are other consequences or complications that could arise.
<ol>
<li>Item 1</li>
<li>Item 2</li>
<li>Item 3</li>
</ol>
<p>Blah Blah Blah</p>
<ol start = "4">
<li>Item 4</li>
<li>Item 5</li>
<li>Item 6</li>
</ol>
You can edit the HTML from within a text capsule by clicking on the "HTML" button, but the amount of control is limited.
" Allowed Tags: a, blockquote, br, strong, em, u, h2, h3, h4, li, ol, p, pre, sup, sub, ul"
This might be a workaround.

The "start" attribute was discontinued in HTML 4, but was reintroduced in HTML 5. I think it's just not possible to use it because it gets stripped from the code editor in text capsules.
Maybe you could request the option in the "Feature Suggestions" forum?
You can change the type of the list marker (e.g. instead of numbers, use letters or Roman numerals). Also you can change the shape of bullets:

I use callout capsules with the number and a short description, then a text box with the longer text.
That is just too much work on a long list where the points are less than 3 lines long.

For whatever reason, I cannot get the numbering system right on Hubpages. When I want to do 10 points on something and I want to put them in different text boxes, the numbering system goes back to number one.I've just written this.http://tessschlesinger.hubpages.com/hub … -to-ChromePlease...

It would be nice to add links to merchandise from HubPages articles - same as the Amazon capsule.

If one is left behind in technoogical race, he is always at a loss. It always hurts me that there is no provision for pasting a HTML code at hubpages. There may be a policy of HP for not including this element. All the hubbers loose greatly on this account. Although I am sure some of...

I give! I've searched the first 3 or 4 pages of "Getting Help" Forum and I've read the entire Link's Capsule section in the Learning Center (http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/using-hubtool). That Hub, by the way, has a large number of Quick Links in it. How do you create a list of topics...

Hi - I have an article here that's been accepted to go to a niche site, but the editor wants me to convert some of my text modules to numbered lists of steps. The numbering feature isn't working for me. I am copying and pasting the steps, which are full paragraphs, and then when I hit enter it...

Hi, I recieved an email which I am sure most of you got to, saying copy and paste the hmtl into your hub or site. When I looked at the Text capsule it does say hmtl on the top to the left. I tried copying the amazon hmtl and it does work, my question is, are we allowed to do this with amazon, or is...
