okay so I just signed up yeserday and posted my first article at Real Men Cook! Today I am trying to negotiate the rest of the site set up and got stuck on affiliations.  The hub directions dont match up with what is happening to me. ebay sent me an email asing me to upload a text file with a unique identifier to the base directory of my site and then have it verified?  I have no idea how to do this and it isn't addressed in the hub tutorial...PLEASE HELP!

You don't do that with HubPages. You are not the owner of the site. You can only put your account number in the affiliate pages.

Also, we may not be able to use Ebay on HubPages for much longer.

Thanks...I guess I got caught up in the analysis and solution and before I knew it had invested several hours.  Based on your comment it was time wasted.

Not so much a problem rather than a solution, but has anyone noticed the new "ebay hubs" under the heading "YOUR HUBS" in the MY ACCOUNT page?  It was actually very helpful in tracking down and allowing me to remove all my existing Ebay capsules.  Anyone else noticed this?

As of 20 July, all new eBay affiliates have to upload a file to validate the domain and prove they own the site. Until the eBay option is taken off HubPages we're going to see quite a few of these forum posts!

Yeah, I tried emailing them an exception, and still haven't heard anything, so I am now assuming it is going to violate their updated EULA.  It is a shame, though from what I understand, most Hubbers (is that a word) rcv. revenue from adsense, anyway.

I agree I follow these steps I still can't validadte if anybody can help please advise

How do I validate a domain?
      The process is easy:
      1.    Create a plain text file in a text editor and in the contents put only your unique identifier (provided on the 'Domains' page or in the initial email we sent).
      2.    Save the file as 'epndomain.txt'.
      3.    Upload the file to the base directory of each of your domains that you would like to validate.
Example: If your website is www.ebay.com, your file would be located at http://www.ebay.com/epndomain.txt.
      4.    Visit the Domain Confirmation Page when your domains are ready to be validated and click on the 'Confirm Domains' button.

Uninvited Writer, you're behind the times!  So was I, until Sunforged corrected me on another thread.

You can validate your eBay account on HubPages.  Enter HubPages.com as the site to be confirmed on the eBay site.  Now go look at the "Affiliates" section and you'll find there's an Activation button to the LEFT of the eBay affiliate line.  Click on that and you'll be asked to enter the activation code.  Then immediately (within 90 seconds)  go and click on the Confirm button in eBay.

Having said that, I couldn't get it to work and have emailed the HP team about it.

Edit:  Just went back and tried for the fourth time - this time it worked.

I don't know. This sounds like trying to "sneak in under the fence" and I personally don't do things that way. I just checked the "unable to confirm" box and gave my reason (can't find the base directory). If they get back to me with advice okay. If not, that's okay too.

HubPages have just sorted a way to do this with eBay

    Go to

    http://hubpages.com/my/epn_activation

    and follow the instructions.

    Hopefully this will work!
