photos of artworks - respectin copyrigts of artists and photografers

   I am a new here. I have start to read art hubs. Maeby I am blind... Hear seems to be many photo galleries about artworks without publishing the name of artist or photografer. I am very sad about that... shocked
   I am working as editor publishin artists homesites. When some outsider takes photos without permission - it happenens all the time (90%) - if visual artist name is publishes and link to his webpage- most artist use to be happy.

      I couldn't agree more.  It amazes me that some Hubbers get enraged when someone pinches their writing - yet they'll pinch a photo without blinking. Then again, there are many others who are very conscientious about giving credit where credit's due.

   Some will use the free photos sites too so not sure all pics fall into copyright infringement. HP is strict about that so am sure they would be quite aware of any such acts

   Anyway this is shame - that Hub looks also dudlicated  - this photo-galleria. What to do?
   You are writers - I am visual artist and photografer. My feelins are same as you have when you disscuss about artickles.
   
   
   Photo of art works:
   copyrights are always artists. Free photo never means permission to publish photos without publishing artist name or name of artwork. Free photos are sometimes  amateur  snaps -  amateurs without knowing copyrights law.
   I do not love that works write copyrights information for every photo.
   
   
   I am afraid that here are hubbers who do not know thease things or understant. - no one seems to look after using photos.
   I am angry because, this person have not publish the names of artists. It seem to be trouble wider. This is also a principal question.  I am professional artist, I notice thease things.
   -I am not good writer - I will ever been good in englis, it is not my mother languest, but I am proud - I think with my own brains...
   
   -   Hub  with photos, no artickle, only titles- published four weeks ago - there was not excat publishing day...
   I believe that this photo serie is  duplicatded withs  its titles-.
   Beginning  july 13  - this same serie of fotos have been publish in many blogs. Two of them have publish also names of some artists - and little descriptions.. . So it seems that our Hubber has takes the easiest way and publish only photos.
   I know - huge photos - häve to publish before someone ekse does it...
   This photoserie is very popular. huge art works - there was maybee seven pages similar:  foto-series with same title.(I just got tired to seek who ist the first or how many sites)   I have feeling that I did not found the first one - creator. I supose half of thease photos has come from Russia - art happening, others are collected from England - museums etc.
   - I found one photo , omne blog in english -from  russian writer, -date may. Three webpages has used their own watermarks in thease photos. To me this issue and where thease awesam artworks are created is very interesting.
   
   In hubpages text is important - so if some one uses the same photo serie - you should at least write your own words and names of artists.
   -easy money - huh...

   If I ever use my photography online, it has a watermark.  Yes, it may take away from the photo & I'm sure someone who is more brilliant than I, can erase it using Photoshop.  I take pride in the photos that I don't want copied, so watermarking is a must for me.  I didn't watermark any of the vases I used in a hub, because, they are just simply to "show" a piece of work.

   This is a problem for artists as well as photographers, in fact, photographers often have little idea about what they can photograph and then publish.
   
   We are constantly having to monitor the web for illegal use of images of artists' work.
   
   Two dimensional works of art - i.e. paintings - are protected by copyright but this does not seem to register with a vast number of people. Only the other day we came across a gallery of photographs that had been taken in our country's National Gallery and then posted on a website.
   
   Readers may think, so, it was taken in a public place, what's wrong with that? Unfortunately there is a great deal wrong with it as although the gallery, like many galleries, allows the taking of photographs, it does not permit publication of those photographs for any purpose. The copyright in respect of the paintings belongs to the artist. (Photographers often moan about things like this and yet if one of their photographs is appropriated without permission they usually howl very loudly indeed).
   
   This site went a few steps further however. They gave visitors access to very large file sizes on their server, they marked all the images with their own domain name too. They did not even give any kind of credit to the artists involved. Now, this may have been innocent ignorance of the law, but that does not really excuse them. To be fair they removed all images after being notified.
   
   This is theft of copyright pure and simple.
   
   As an artist, if you find yourself in this position, the first step is to issue a DMCA Takedown Notice to the hosting company where the offending images have been published. By law the hosting company is obliged to notify their customer of the notice and, if they get no response from them, they should remove the content from their servers or they risk prosecution themselves. Of course for many sites hosted outside the US this may not be effective but it certainly works most of the time.
   
   As Jane has already said protect your own images on the web with a watermark if you don't want them stolen or printed by others. That is a good start but in the age of digital photography problems for artists are only going to get worse before they get better.
   
   If you are a photographer please think carefully before publishing images of two dimensional artwork online before first understanding your rights.
