I am interested in using photos[my own] and clip art to help to improve my hubs. My question is how to upload and place clip art.I can prepare my hub in Microsoft Word and upload it with the photo and clip art already inserted. Is this acceptable or do I have to use capsules? Now that I have started to figure out Hub Pages, I want to really get creative and present hubs with commercial impact. Any suggestions?
Read Darkside's hubs on how to properly use capsules. I started out like you, and after reading his hubs my hubs are soooo much improved.
You have to upload your photo files and clipart files separately using the dedicated photo capsule.
You can align the photo capsules left or right within the main body of the text. Alternatively you can use the full width for your photo/clipart. You can also frame it, specifiy if a reader should be able to click on the photo to see it in full size. You can also allow the option for slide shows (you have to have a minimum number of 5 photos in a certain size to do this).
Of course you can always rearrange your photo capsules to change the overall layout of your hub.
It is pretty straightforward.
I use photos extensively in almost all of my hubs. You are invited to take a look to give you an overview of the possibilities of arranging photos for your hubs.

Thanks for your help Uninvited Writer. I will try the instructions.
Sorry, aoiffe379, I have been away for the weekend. Don't feel like I'm abandoning you.
Anyway, just to reiterate, my hubs have greatly improved because I followed Darkside's tips. In fact I even posted a forum thread thanking him

I went into one of my older hubs to add a photo and got this message:"It looks like some images in this capsule appear to be reduced in size. Note that saving any changes made to this capsule will update the size of these images to fit the capsule."After adding a new photo, all the...

Why doesn't HP allows writers to downsize a photo or clip art any more?I just changed an image on one of my hubs (both clip art) only to discover I can no longer downsize an image so that it's not too big--both for aesthetic reasons and to ensure it's not fuzzy. HP will complain if an image isn't...

Since I was turned down by HP regarding their apprenticeship program due to the fact that "you don't write well enough" (I so wish I didn't delete that email) yet I'm still allowed to write hubs which apparently are subpar then are they keeping me here so their pockets get fuller? ...

We've been talking about leading photos in the forums and while it's not just about having a leading photo, it's about having a really great leading photo. We recommend this because we see these photos get shared a disproportionately number of times higher. The quote of the day "People...

I really don't like the new photo capsules. I would like to make them smaller but can't. I have doubleclicked them with no results. I want the old photo capsule format where I can reduce the size of the photos This is ridiculous. I doubleclicked the photo...

Wanted to share an interesting observation with my fellow hubbers. For the first four months on Hub Pages, I used a clip art image on my profile. It was a painting of a woman who kind of looked my me- but not me.Yesterday morning I made a change- I swapped out the clip art for a photo. And, I...
