"...There are more than 12,500 registered lobbyists -- about 23 for every member of Congress, according to the Center for Responsive Politics -- and some are getting richer while others stagnate or even dip a bit because of all of this pesky recession talk. But those who operate at the confluence of this summer's big three legislative streams are happiest of all..."

I commented on this once before but the solution is called TERM LIMITS... I don't care how popular your congressman is in your state, if they are there more than 2 terms they'll be compromised by lobbiests.
Lobbying is not the problem, completely, it's the decades long relationships that are formed between lobbiests and congressmen that is the problem.
You ever sit back and ask, who writes these 1000 page bills? I can gurarntee they are not being written by congressmen. They are being written by people the congressmen "trust."
Trust is used very loosely here.
Term limits for congress / senate is definitely a great idea. I'd also extend that to the Supreme Court. Sometimes I wish we could clean Washington out & start over. You know, so that all my personal interests are represented! That is the bottom line isn't it? That sounds selfish, but at it's core, that's what it's suppose to be about. For the people by the people. Now it's for a few by whoever plays the right card. Blah.
This isn't new. The only difference are the groups that are lobbying the hardest. During the Bush years, it was defense contractors lobbying. Now healthcare and the like. Both sides do it. Doesn't make it right.
BHO did campaign on not letting lobbyists into the White House. There is little he can do about lobbying in Congress except for push for campaign finance change. He has promised to do that but he is a bit busy trying to put the Country back together again.
This would be a great time for McCain to come back to reality. He has been a leader on this issue for years. I don't agree with McCain on much, but campaign finance is one thing I think he and the President could work together on and get something done. Is MCCain Maverick enough to stop saying no to everything and lead?
How does one lobby "harder"?
The president is not in charge of reassembling the country. Perhaps he could take some time away from his vacations (Monticello, Yosemite, Matha's Vineyard, Hawaii, all in the first 8 months of his administration...)
Nope, he's not. He lost his juice when he lost the election.
The answer is very simple. Adopt a strict view of the Tenth Amendment. No need for "reform" or anything else.
ledefensetech you are 100 percent correct. All Americans need to start enforcing the 10th Amendment with their State Reps by demanding they not deviate from it. This will return power to the people and restore Justice and the natural rule of law.
If the federal government refuses to stay within the boundaries the constitution has placed on them we have numerous other options.

The movement to restore the rule of law to government is well underway within the States.

There's an implicit understanding among teabaggers held by most Americans that this country was founded by regular folks. The associated superstition for teabaggers is that government has been taken over by 'elitists'. It's true that in America, a man whose mother is from Kansas and father from...

It is time to limit Congress and there is a petition under way to do just that without Congress's consent. Washington doesn't want to stop over spending and balance the budget. They want to eliminate the debt ceiling and spending caps for the next two years....

Do you think Trump will push for Term Limits to shake up Congress? There are many members of Congress who have lived most of their adult lives as elected members of Congress - clearly in defiance to what the founders intended a representative government to be. Are you in support of limiting...
