whats the best way to gain fans, and is it important?

   And is it really necessary to increase your hubscore? ive seen people with 1000's of fans how do they get that many fans?
   
   - im assuming they fan every new person to get fans back?

   well if you read hubs that you like and fan the people, they will  likely read your hubs and fan them back....... that,s what makes this a great community i call them friends rather than fans actually

   Don't be too active in fanning people. If you are going on a fan spree (fanning randomly dozens or even hundreds of people in short time) this may even harm your hubber score.
   
   I do have the approach of fanning "naturally" meaning when I come across an interesting hub I look at the hubber profile and if I am still more interested I will fan the person. Usually I do not just fan the hubber but write one or two comments on hubs which I am particularily interested in. I am also writing a fan post almost everytime.
   
   Usually this type of fanning is reciprocal.

   The only benefit of becoming a fan is that you'll be notified of any new Hubs they write. 
   
   If you're asking whether it's important to improve your earnings on HubPages, it's irrelevant.

      I used to think this, now I'm not so sure that's 100% true. 
      
      The HubPages frontpage is usually dominated by the same old faces, i.e. those who are very socially active at HP, I've come to believe that the hubs that appear there are pretty much determined by the number of comments received.  And traffic from the frontpages does not necessarily count as internal traffic that doesn't monetize.
      
      In addition do the links from profile to profile between hubbers add link juice, SEO benefits?  This may be minimal, but it all helps.
      
      Personally I'm not overly interested in the whole fanning thing, and have myself told others having fans doesn't help several times, but I'm wondering now if I've been wrong (if only a little).

         It seems like all the hubpages heavy hitters are on the forums tonight, or this morning , or afternoon for that matter.
         
         Im sure the hubpages admins/moderators/owners. have some fancy algorithms to deal with spammers, and real users.
         
         hopefully so anyways im really enjoying hubpages.

      That's a great article.
      
      I have to say, I've never worried about fans at all. It's nice when people fan me, and I fan other people when I read their hubs and really like their work, but mostly I come here to write and sometimes to goof off. I do what's fun for me and I try not to pay too much attention to my Hub Score. It's up and down.
      
      It doesn't really have any effect on anything, does it?

    I think it depends why the writer is here as far as fanning is concerned. I am a newbie so my fanbase is quite small but my concern at this early stage is to learn how to do this and improve with each article.
    
    There are some excellent writers here but I'm not always interested in what the writers with 100 are writing, I want to look around and explore and I'll fan those with whom I want to follow.
