You can generate traffic from digg simply by submitting one of your hubs.
Just submitting your own hubs to Digg won`t bring much traffic. It`s counted just as a bank link, you might increase your search engine listing, but traffic won`t be any greater. Stories get buried very fast and most of them do not make the homepage of Digg. The rules are pretty much the same for all the social networks. I have been using Digg myself and I`m pretty active I can say. I will write some future Hubs about ways to succeed on Digg. There is a lot of hard work involved. Maki Maki is one of the top users on Digg he spends more than 5 hours a day on the most well known social networks. A lot of his stories are making the front page of Digg. But lets not forget these people are recognized in the SEO industry and they heck know how to game systems like Adsense, it is pretty easy to game Digg. But I`m not going to share this.
I'll definitely agree that you probably won't make it to the front page of Digg. I'm just saying that when you submit one of your own hubs to digg you're bound to get at least some traffic as a result. Believe it or not your content does reach some people even if it isn't on the front page, especially with the new recommendation system.

The few followers I have report to me that they do not receive notification that a new hub is published or featured. When I contacted HubPages help directly by email they told me that the messages were probably in the spam box of the followers. That is not the case. Anyone else having (or had) this...

The blog post made it clear you're interested mostly in brand new hubs for the niche sites. If you release a list of topics you'll be making niche sites for, we can write new hubs on those topics. You'll have to do so eventually and doing so now will give us time to create enough content for each...

I've just reached a landmark of 100 followers (yay, me!), which might not seem like much, but it's built up pretty slowly over time, and I've made sure to interact with everyone I'm following regularly (106 now), checking out new hubs, etc. It made me consider an interesting question:How do...
