   I would like to know what other knowledge and abilities people here have. If you are inclined to preach ANYTHING, then contribute only on the basis of: If you had to face this life without the choice of hiding behind your religious beliefs or justifying your faith to others.
   
   I am not interested in your personal religious beliefs or what colour undies (if any) you wear... I am researching for a hub that will be written shortly.... about PEOPLE... Not Obsessions!
   
   So... The Mysteries of Fruitcakes; most of us have learnt over the last couple of months! Let's get back to Rational and look at the positive resources that lie within the Sane Section of this community. So please; in this regard.... leave your moose outside
   (I am Not implying that religious belief is wrong in any respect... I just do not appreciate being browbeaten by Fruitcakes in a Mooselike manner)

      I spent a large part of my life suffocating under layers and layers of religous beliefs. I felt compelled to justify them to all onlookers so as to make myself feel like less of a fruitcake. when I was 18, my life and religion changed abrubtly, its been along hard transition. I dotn know yet, where I stand about God, Ihate bieng preached too..yet I do udnerstand why they do it. I now am wasting time, in front of the computer, with no undies on. I am a good listener, and I try my best to understand the other guy's view, taking myself out of the picture. Also, I am a wickedly good cook, if I dare say so myself. I guess that's about what I have to contribute. Not much really, but thanks for asking. Oh, and if you make a Bull Moose mad, it will charge!!!

                           I'm an accountant (booorrring?) who is trying to run my father's accounting office (hard work, aaargggh!) who loves to write part time (more exciting ) who is a frustrated cook (but loves to eat and my waistline is showing it) who is married (no kids though) who loves the forums and everything about hubpages (except the topic you just mentioned).

                              we are considering raising goats for meat, and was wondering how they taste? I know people the world over eat them but where I live, its considerd wierd and gross, so I never got to try it.

                                 You gotta try goat's meat. They're soft and delicious and if cooked just right, they don't give any foul smells at all.

                                    I have about 6 acres of land. Its not alot, but enough to have a small farm. We want to become more self sufficent. Goats are economical to raise. Hardy, small, and they dont require alot of feed, outside of what you grow on your land, they are good milk producers, and they are ediable. Plus, they mkae good pets, and i thinkthey are cute. I dont care what the "locals" think. The problem is, because its not common here, its not in the stores. I coudl get it at the farmers market, but its expensive. SO I didnt know how they tasted. I imaigned something like lamb.
                                    I tried real hard to type that good, but..I hope that hub lady doesnt comeover here...

                                          Oh, I can ignore. I am not in the slightest bit worried. I am so sick of everyone getting all jumpy tho. I live in Northern New England. My town is predominantly French. It is cold and rainy here today. Same as it always is in September. Makes me think about the upcoming winter, and I feel like bakign, and cooking, and filling the hoye with all kinds of happy good food smells.

                                 There's goat in the Philippines, in case you might get confused. What emie meant was that here in the urban area (Manila), you only find goat in the market, which is still very rare. In the rural areas, yes, goats are like staple pets.

                                             I'm not sure how I would interpret that part about your friend. But really, the number of readings is like GAH! Honestly I did not read everything the professors required. Perhaps because they cannot, after all, put all the details into one long test. Guess I've been lucky.
                                             
                                             On a more serious note, yes, psychology students serve other students and become participants in their experiments.

                                    we have plenty for pets, here too. some markets sell meat, but expensive and rare. I have heard, that goat meat is a staple in some countries, like beef is here. I am curious about it is all.
                                    Have you ever eaten it?

                                       Yep, whenever my family go to Ilocos (a northern Philippine province), my titas and titos (aunts and uncles) cook papaitan (read as it's written). It's an Ilocos native delicacy with goat as the main ingredient.
                                       
                                       I heard soldiers destined in provinces also like to eat the same thing. Well we did when our unit visited PMA (I used to be an ROTC officer.).

            I am having roasted chicken;seasoned with fresh basil, garlic, oninons, thyme, pepper and rosamry. Home grown carrots, glazed with butter, brown sugar and honey. Home grown new potaoes, mashed, with gravy..made from the chicken drippings. Tossed salad, and I still have pecan pie left over form the other night. Ill set an extra plate for ya.   But, it will be breakfast for you, again.

   I’m an Occupational Therapist and just retired from the Air Force in Dec 08.  I will be volunteering at the facility I retired from a few hours a month.  They want me to return and take care of the breast cancer patients, and those super complex upper extremity pain patients that I had a knack for. 
   
   I’m writing here, recording some of the education I have been providing verbally to clients and their families for 20+ years.  I am an experienced pediatric, NICU, mental health, ergonomics and hand/upper extremity therapist.  Clients always said I explained things in a way they could understand.  Many also said they felt like I was the first provider who really understood their pain. 
   
   Since my retirement I learned to do mosaics and have designed and made a series of US flag-inspired pieces.  My sister moved in with me in Sept 08.  She likes to work with wood.  She cuts lot of small pieces and our brother and I paint and decorate them.  Lots of crosses.  Ironic right?  They're big in TX, and we've sold a few.
   
   Well, that’s probably more than you asked for.

   rmcrane thank you. That is awesome and a vocation that will give you an emmense amount of satisfaction that comes from understanding.
   
   I am a wee bit the same in my endeavours in that I tend to give without really expecting to receive. Lateral thinking gives us a distinct advantage over most; in that it allows us to find easy solutions to problems people deem to be complex.
   
   Really it often only takes the exercise of shifting the other party outside of the box and allowing them the opportunity of a different perspective. Most importantly though; it stems from taking the time; as you say; to understand.

   I appreciate your comments Pearldiver.  I have a driving need for logic.  If I can’t explain things to myself, then I can’t explain things to my client.  That would mean I have failed. 
   
   A doc once told me “There are groupers and sorters. You’re definitely a grouper."  I get what he meant, but to me it’s an ongoing matter of grouping and sorting and grouping some more. 
   
   I can also thank all those crappy MDs out there, who don’t respect their patients.  I’ve told many a tearful client:  I can only control what happens in this room, and I never want a patient to leave my table feeling disrespected or belittled.

          So who am I? Hmm. This could trigger my narcissistic side.
          
          I enjoy reading about things I partially know about. I write in my personal blog on things that inspire and change me, for better or for worse, and don't really care if people would read them or not. I write here for hubpages firstly to inform college students about a particular field (psychology for now), and possibly to earn while doing that. I am motivated in different things, but mostly in a challenge with a small probability of me winning. I deal with life in different ways...it's because people change and I'm not one of the exceptions.
          
          So there, my narcissistic self. Attack me! >

      i do not cook any more much, but used to when kids were little

    oh yeah i am lazy too, would like the idea of being a writer, but find small hubs and communicating and making friends, and being accepted here is what makes me happy for now....

          Also, fruity sometimes means..crazy. And theres nuts in fruitcake..nutty..see? All in all, I wouldn't be mad if someone called me any kind of cake.    also ...maybe he got banned for the F word, not really being mean to cake.

    Hi PD - I see that you are bringing your unique brand of Kiwi wit to the proceedings.
    
    I was born and bred in the North of England, graduated in Marine Biology and ended up working for crappy corporations.
    
    We moved to Greece and I now make a living as a writer, specialising in academic work.
    
    I would love to say that the scenery, history and culture inspire my work, but it is mostly down to a strict diet of Ouzo - food dilutes the alcohol too much. I obtain my vitamins from cigarettes
    
    I especially avoid fruitcake - it has no nutritional value

       Hey Sufi, from marine biology to writing? Always wanted to ask why the big leap. The two are not actually related are they?
       
       About the fruitcake, same here. Though not because of the value, I tend to get allergies due to the rhum in some of the fruitcakes plus I don't like raisins and cherry too much .

       I am writing a very long academic paper, at the moment, but I signed a non-disclosure agreement, so cannot go into details.
       
       My writing covers everything from travel articles and web content to philosophy, religion and science papers. I enjoy it very much - sadly, the money sucks

          I used to write for writers.ph (hehe) and sure I got a lot of money from it. I have not experienced getting late payments, but I was kicked out because I failed to reach some deadlines...had other priorities. I picked only minor topics with 5 USD per page at the minimum.
          
          Yes, Sufi, it was fun and easy money. But I get sad whenever I know that I cannot claim ownership from those orders. And some clients are frustrating because their instructions are not very clear. Overall, the experience is good but the after-effect is bad. "Writing for other people" left me empty.

             I started off on those sites, but most of my work is now private. I also have a few clients that I write web articles for - I work for a guy with a scientific resource site, and a book is planned, although I have little time. I also hope to write a couple of history books about the local area, so we shall see what happens.
             
             Sadly, paying the bills comes first, so they are on the backburner at the moment

    DM, hehe, she might because 3 of us are here and we're all commenting on the other thread. I'd say go for raising goat. They're low in maintenance and they have a lot of use. There's a certain place here where the people know how to prepare and cook a whole goat (and I mean from the head to the toes, poor goats).
    
    Sufi, I'm in the same boat as you. Academic writing, now trying to be a blogger, etc. But creative writer, I am not!

          goodluck. catch lots of fish. sorry for diverting your thread, but if you read between the lines, there is good stuff there. mostly aobut food and cultures, I guess. I for one, never tire of reading about other cultures. I just know your new hub will be awesome, informative, and funny.

    I think if you rule out the fruitcakes, you'll miss out on some of the most interesting people here. I'm of the opinion that it's boring to be normal, and I wear the geek label other people have pinned upon me with pride.
    
    I have two comic book projects going on simultaneously- a superhero/spy/crime drama project scheduled to debut in February and a horror project.
    
    I have been involved in Irish dance for going on 30 years.
    
    I am rather obsessed with music. If it makes noise, I either play it, have played it, or have tried to play it. I got into college on a marching band scholarship playing the tuba, studied concert piano briefly, then vocal performance, recorded a few CD's, arranged music, produced a few concerts, and enjoyed a brief career in professional musical theater.
    
    I wrote a pipe organ arrangement of the Throne Room Theme from Star Wars to serve as the recessional when my husband and I got married.
    
    Oh yes. To call the Star Wars saga my favorite six movies is a slight understatement.
    
    I have to like intelligent people. My family is the sort that regards philosophy, literature, history, physics, et cetera, appropriate topics for light dinnertime conversation- perhaps in more than one language at once.
    
    I also am very athletic, but I only enjoy sports for their own sake and don't get involved much in competition- except competitive Irish dance. My students have a competition this weekend.

    Me, not much to tell.  I have two amazing children, one who recently moved out to college, the other is in 8th grade.  I'm a soccer mom & former dance mom.  I've been a stay at home mom for 13 years & recently started writing again (beyond the journal).  I love my kids so much & made the decision to stay home versus corporate America to raise them. Married 20 years.  I hate cleaning but hate a dirty house even more   I love to bake & cook.  I knit & crochet left handed & like to freak out all the right handed knitters who swear there is no way but the right way   I love to crank on the music when no one is home & dance, dance, dance.  I hate living in the suburbs, its artificial to me and can't wait to move somewhere less .... and somewhere more...Less of the "I'm better than you are, because I stay at home and have a housekeeper" (neighbors - sheesh) and more of tree lined streets, quaint neighborhoods and friendly people.  Less of the "Nordstrom look to just sit & watch a soccer game" and more of the "I just came from weeding the garden look".  I'm currently mentally supporting my recently unemployed husband, yet watching him grow more depressed each day. 
    
    Good god, I just wrote half a book...oooops.

    Gosh ,everyone is so much smarter than me ,accredited an such . Honoured to part of such a clever bunch.
    
    See I only went to school to eat my lunch , just hated it, none of it made much sense ,in fact I probably learned more out of school than in it. But it was a very prestige school and as my father was native I kinda stood out ( way back then) so in a way it also made me stronger
    
    Im used to the bush ,forest ,woods and the ocean. Many week-ends were spent helping one of my five brothers fishing or collecting honey ,wild fruit. I suspect they had to take me ,to give my busy mum a break too
    
    No TV in our house  for years ( really dont think the connection would have stretched way out in the boon docks anyway) but we read about other countries and threw countless bottles with messages into the sea-since the Pacific was my front yard.
    
    We were also famous in our town of a few hundred mainly for sports or crime lol.Boys.
    
    Now I am all grown up, and here I am in the USA filtering and sending back tidbits I have learned about other cultures here to my sons who ask about the Civil War, trade with China , and how people interact with one another in this vast land of indigenous people....
    Sometimes I think the middle son is my parent and honestly he can be overly strict with me ...
    
    Parenting has been my main employment, and special needs pre-schoolers, loved it all.
    
    Wow the years flew bye~ maybe the Kiwi part of me likes to stay on terra firma,solid ground and the Eagle enables me to soar..

    So, let's see here.  I'm 25, currently holding an AA in media arts.  Unfortunately I have been unable to find work in that area.  So, right now I'm currently working as a caretaker aka house cleaner/cook.  Hey, it pays something. 
    
    I don't watch much TV except for occasionally what's on the History, History International, and Discovery channels.  I will watch Adult Swim, and I do religiously watch the CBS show, 'Cold Case'
    
    Writing wise, I write about whatever strikes my fancy.  I had been, will be working on a little plot summary for the season 6 finale of Cold Case "Into the Blue".  I also like to write things that cause people to think, and sometimes this can offend/piss of people, but evidently I don't care, because I keep doing it.  I do also like to write parody and satire (Note:  One of the funnest to do, is to take any book, game, or situation, and write a short script for it like you're the infamous director Uwe Bowell. )
    
    I'm an INTP (Architect) which means quite a bit of stuff, lol.
    
    I also love LOVE LOVE to listen to music.  In fact, after I get this posted I'm going to grab my earbuds and listen to some Ex Deo, "Romulus".  My preferred music is heavy metal, because I see it as the most honest form of music that there is.  I am also one of those geeks that makes playlists for the characters of my story; but it helps me to write them.
    
    Story?  Yeah, it's without going into too much detail, a satire.

    I'm a little off baby; but I remember when I was sane. Things were so ugly, I had to paint a new picture. I am the product of my hippie parents dancing in the rain. My best friend and I used to hop the train, just to get away for awhile and forget about the pain...
    
    Running away became a way of life, trying to outrun whatever was chasing my peace-loving soul. Feeling like the hunted in a world that didn't make sense. Religion at first was my refuge. Then I saw all the lies and deceit for what they were. Good people come from all walks of life. We do not need religion or a book to tell us what is right.
    
    Etched into our souls, there we will find the truth. Hidden deeply within ourselves are limitless rhymes and verses entwined with this poetic gold. The world will never get better unless the truth is told. So many lies have been stacked up against us through the millenniums, shadowing us in the words of fools.
    
    Shall we sit and play the blame game for eternity or work to shape the future into something better for our young? Do we accept the "mainstream" mentality or work to discover our own? Life is about evolution. If we choose to all stay the same, where will we all be when the last song is sung? Does life ever truly end or does it always just hang by a thread?
    
    I don't know much; but I know life is too short to be living it with dread. Allow what you will into your life and throw the rest away. Paint your own beautiful picture, creating a place you want to stay. Never allow anyone to tell you that you're wrong. Your truth is your truth, and not something anyone else can judge. Walk your personal walk through life and don't forget to sing and dance in the rain. Stop and smell the roses, your time here is for you to enjoy in whichever way you choose.
    
    Yea, maybe I am a "fruitcake;" but all that I am is what I want to be. There are so many bits and pieces of me, fragments of this and that. I like to think of myself as a puzzle I've put together. Every little piece adding more meaning to the picture that I paint. The world would be so dull if we all were the same so I've dared to be different, call me what you will...
    
    I live my life pretty randomly. There's so much I wish to see and experience. When the sun finally sets upon me, my last breath through, my only wish is for my loved ones to not shed a tear; but to know and understand that my time for rest is past due. I've lived hard and fought my chosen battles well with a fierceness prepared to give the devil himself his due.
    
    I don't know if this answers any of your questions, pearldiver; but it's exactly what I was inspired to say. My only hope is that everyone who may read this has a very, very blessed day!!!
