My experience suggests that bipolar is curable by diet and a few changes of lifestyle.

I was diagnosed as b/p2 about 11 or 12 years ago. While not everyone with a bipolar diagnosis can be stablized by nutrition and diet, many can at least find some improvement. I have been episode free for nearly 5 years and pretty rational and calm with a program at truehope.com. It's a lot of work to clean up your body's digestion and assimilation so your brain isn't starving, but it can usually be at least improved for most people.

I'm looking forward to reading your experiences!

All the best to you, bipolar girl.

As far as i am aware bipolar sufferers are experiencing a drop in lithium levels within the brain. I know 2 people suffering with bipolar and they both take lithium medication on a regular basis.Once you have ascertained your lithium level requirements and been prescribed the correct dosage then you should see an improvement to your state of mind.
There are many factors to bipolar so rather than just rely on medication i also reccommend that you see a trained expert eg psychiatrist. The 2 people i know use both medication and regular visits to the pyschiatrist in order to maintain an equilibriam.
      I hope this helps.

It's more than lithium. And taking lithium is hell. Those of us who take it or have taken it, hate it as much as any of the other meds. And I'm saying this with no disrespect.

What all mental illness is about is the brain starving, either because the body can assimilate the nutrients it needs or because of organ damage to the digestive system and/or brain. It is possible for people clean up this scenario, but it's long, frustrating, and depends on the amount of damage to the body. As the disease progresses there is more damage that accumulates. Therefore, psychotropic meds are often necessary to bypass the organ damage.

However, in those cases where assimilation and digestion can be improved, either less psychotropic drugs are needed, or none at all. But using none at all is not a silver bullet. One must continually tweak eating habits, perhaps adding a high powered vitamin/mineral complex along with add-ons such as phosphatadyl choline (for racing thoughts) and inositol (calms the nervous system). Amino acid pills do wonders for helping the body and brain balance, as long as they can be assimilated. They can be purchased online or in any fitness or health food store.

These are the natural tools that actually DO work in treating various forms of mental illness. It's not snake oil, smoke and mirrors, voodoo, or quackery. This is real stuff and more info can be found in hubs here, and in other places on the net such as truehope.com.

While some people are able to completely control symptoms naturally, others may still require small amounts of psychotropic meds in order to be stable. It's dependent completely on organ damage and nutrient assimilation.

wow. what about people who have also had emotional trauma, in addition to the fact of a purely medical problem? what is reccomended?

Emotional trauma often induces anxiety and panic attacks. I wrote a hub on that, and there are some suggestions and natural remedies in that hub.

I've gone through some brutal abuse, as many have. Emotional stuff is extremely difficult to let go of. I wrote a hub about abuse and the ideas that help us resolve some of the trauma. It's just a long, slow process.

I've had to rethink everything I believed in as a result of all my experiences, but I'm glad for that. I don't have many answers, but I do have some experiences.

Daniel...Talk to me again about these foods for racing thoughts and inositol...do you have a hub on this information?  I'm intrigued and sort of desperate.  I do not suffer from bi-polar but depression and anxiety (bad anxiety).

You should definitely do a hub on this. Way too many people do not understand it, recognize it's symptoms, or know what it's like. I'm not a suffer myself, but my mother is and a number of people I know are.

What I find remarkable is the level of intelligence in the diagnosed bipolar.

My mom has bipolar and my dad has a mental health issue, so i feel as though people need to learn about these problems; that has been troubling people lives. I think you should keep your head up and live your life for you and not to worry about other peoples opinion, as long as your happy.

I am bipolar with anxiety issues and it is hell.  If I miss one dose of meds I am either super hyper or deeply depressed.  It royally sucks.  I even wrote a hub about that. I would say you are doing well as it is bipolar girl.

I am thrilled that there are other people such as you Bipolargirl who are willing to share their experiences and challenges with being bipolar! I also am one of the lucky one's diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I just take my zillion pills per day and stay posted with my doctor! I hope that you keep up with the good work!
