Only when the superpower is the US. Any other who think nuclear weapon is the determinant, may end up destroying herself first, before setting the rest of the World in conflict.

      Nope, not at all.

      Compete as a superpower?
You bet your cute boots that'll happen, and continue.

I think a lot of lazy people would love to have the super power of telekinesis (moving things with their mind).

Politically though, someone will always end up being on top in terms of influence and capability whether they like it or not. Too many factors to consider.

Who would keep the animals at bay, if not for a Superpower? We look at parts of the World where criminals run the country because they have the guns and gangs, called armies. Chaos, death and no future.
The World would revert back to "The Dark Ages" without the U.S. and Nato along with other "civilized nations". Read the History of Medieval Europe, when Warlords ruled the World, life was cheap and short. The funny thing is many Warlords from that era are now Royal families, wealthy beyond belief...from all the gold and jewels stolen wherever they could steal it. Now they are respected...
The dark ages were a time of destruction...there are some now that would return us to that time...no civilized man will allow that to happen.

'very good point gandalfthegrey. You said "The World would revert back to "The Dark Ages" without the U.S. and Nato along with other "civilized nations".Then why to keep United Nations, why don't we hand over the responsibility of world peace to NATO.I think we can think of making the United Nations more powerful.thanks.

Only kings, presidents, editors, and people with tapeworms have the right to use that word "we."

The term, "super power", has negative connotations to any of us who don't think in terms of taking over the world; so maybe there needs to be a new term to describe the most powerful nation(s).

If the world was made up, 100%, of people who just wanted to mind their business and be friends with everyone everywhere, then it would be great if every nation was a "super power" (and could offer its people and the world all kinds of resources that "super powers" can offer).   On the other hand, if no nation had a lot of resources/power but everybody could live happily with that, and nobody wanted other people's resources, then having no "super power" would work too.

With the world being what it really is, it's better to have a "super power" or two than to have none.  Being powerful and being "evil" are not always the same thing.

I'd like to have the power to detect a liar.  That would be so helpful in so many ways.
