    hi out there,

i am a newcomer to the entire concept and format of hubpages, and at the risk of being rather ignorant i cannot figure out how to get started as far as posting an article on my hub site ... technically, i am really lacking ... so, i would very much appreciate guidance so i can get going with this ... with my thanks, alexandra

p.s. in having to choose a 'category' ... is there an option to kind of create one's own category since the choices available are not exactly what i would like to put in that space ... again, thank you ...

I'm assuming you've got as far as clicking the "Start a New Hub" button?

Don't worry too much about the category if you're having trouble with it - you can always change it later.  The main thing is to get your Hub written!

You don't have a "Hub site".  Each Hub is a separate article.  Once you have completed the setup phase, you'll find yourself at your Hub in Edit mode. Add some extra text boxes and photo boxes and set about filling them!

eventually i'll get get familiar with this ...

again with preemptive thanks and appreciation, alexandra

The number next to a title is that hub's individual score. The quality and content of the hub, mixed with traffic to the hub etc. will raise or lower the score off and on over time. A new hub will generally start out at a lower score, such as the forties or fifties. 100 is the highest score a hub can reach and is difficult to gain.

At the bottom of the hub, there is a link button. Click that and add your tracker. Copy the entire link. Post it on your website.

As for category. You can suggest new categories, but you can't make up your own when setting up the  hub.

What is the hub about? Maybe we can help you put it in a category.

There are many Hubs with great advice on getting started in HubPages. Use the Help button and Search bar at the top right of your screen there on HP site. big_smile Welcome to HubPages.

I agree with Dame scribe, there are some great hubs about how hubpages works, I read a load of them when I first started and they were a real help. Welcome to hubpages and good luck. wink
