LOL .. feed them well at home and then take them out with you. By the way babies do not notice your appetite in public places.

Most woman are very discreet when nursing in public and it has become the norm to nurse in public, not the taboo it use to be years ago.

Absolutely. It's much more natural to have a society where babies can guzzle modified, chemically-altered cows' milk in bottles.

Did breastfeeding make your bust size reduce (I mean to pre-pregnancy size or smaller)? I ask not out of vanity but because I am a petite pregnant person and if my bust stays this large after pregnancy it will be very uncomfortable.

I have always let my babies wean themselves.  I quit with the first one because I didn't know what I was doing.  My second baby died before I had the chance to try. The third one weaned herself at 22 months. The fourth one at 8 months, the fifth one at 23 months, the sixth one at 20 months and my last one just stopped at 15 months.

i think it's true what they say, that in addition to making your infant healthier, it also makes them smarter. i nursed my son for six months, then his teeth started erupting and he started eating baby food and i didn't produce enough milk anymore sad

but it was a wonderful experience.

my opinion: 1 year is exellent. after 1, its pushing it for me.  I give my children raw goat milk and cow sometimes. Goat milk raw is the secound best to human milk. fact. The look of your breast also changes, i was told different. I would recomend a year and then raw milk. my mother did 2 years on me and her breasts became very soft.

with my first son, I breastfed him for 2 years, he also ate mashed bananas with breastmilk and in his second year plain yogurt and honey, some veggies. he never had any formula or baby food.

second child I breastfed for about a year and 1/2. with the second child it was important to keep myself strong and nourished running after a 4 year old and a baby, so I started him earlier on some foods. I was eating at least every 3 hours small healthy meals.

they're both really, really smart and creative, so it certainly didn't limit their growth and brain development. also I was fortunate to be in a situation where I could stay home with them in their early years.

the breasts will firm up again with proper nutrition and exercise! smile

          I think thats awesome LG.
I breastfed my sons til they basically could manage sippin' from a toddler mug. My mother in law wasnt cool with it ,but I figured since they werent her breasts, she didnt have any problem really lol

To be honest my attitude was and is , you have milk, baby needs that milk-no problem.
A ready walkin instant milk station , open 24/7 lol no bottles to sterilise, sit /lie down in the job, perfect temp everytime, supply matches demand , happy customers who keep coming back for more!!

Could go on about natural anti-bodies and bonding enrichment, but then most people already know that.

Interestingly some people never ever leave the breast or bottle come to that cool

It's a birth right of toddlers to be milked by her mother for 2 years. And it ultimately makes a baby healthy enough as compared to a baby fed by customised milks.

I wasnt ever planning to breast feed i was just like you, I said why should i it easier to give formula. Anyways its called nipple guard i will reapeat that nipple guard look that up its 5 dollars in babies r us. My nipples were inverted and it felt like my son had razors in his mouth and the suckcion was like a vacum cleaner. nobody in the hospital supported my breast feeding and the lacktisioner was, ok she was horrible. Nipple guard saved my breastfeeding. sorry for spelling all. iam not selling nothing so dont worry i just want future moms to give the best to their angels.  Lets face it how much money are formula companies are making on us women. Billions maybe more.  Having a baby and breast feeding him or her is the best thing nature did for mothers.

My babies were demand fed, like when they were hungry ,and not by a clock ,for the most part though ,they were fed at home or far from anyones gaze ,lol.

However I gotta say , I would rather see a mother breasfeed in public than for her or baby to be stressed.(which is what happens when baby starts fussing)...

Lifes too short to be complaining about something quite natural, in my opinion.

I wishi I could have breast feed my son. Unfortunately he was born prematurely and was too ill to suck. Well, I ended up pumping and the nurses in the baby ICU gave my milk to him. But then I dried up. It felt like I wasn't woman enough, I felt like I'd fail him. Now I'm looking my sister-in law with her newborn babies with their botles. It' very hard not to be judmental about breast feeding when that experience has been taken away from you.

Are you a lactation specialist?  A doctor?  Why would you even say "must not" and "over dose" (by the way, it's one word: overdose) when you're obviously no expert on the topic.

By the way, I nursed both my girls for 14 months each and they hardly ever get sick and I'm always being told by their preschool teachers that they are way more advanced than most of the other kids their age.  Coincidence?  Breast milk?  Who knows!

I also breast fed in public as I, too, fed on demand.  If it was convenient I would go sit in my car, but otherwise I had no problem nursing in public places, but I was discreet and respectful about it.

You people who have a problem with this completely natural way to nourish our babies need to get over yourselves!  If you feel you can't move your head that's your own fault - deal with it!

I said that because these are the words of the Ultimate Super Doctor which is Allah (God). And the credibilty is that, now scientists are blaming alcohol to be the major cause of heart and other diseases even of social problems. If you analyse, this theory was already given by Allah and He forbade alcohol. So now, the logic pushes a human mind to obey Allah in each and every walk of life as His directions are always true and right.

If you are hell bent on feeding your babies in public then you have to take care of your modesty as well. That is you have to hide your boob and nipple. You can do it behind a tree or bushes.

          1. Lily Rose profile image86
Lily Roseposted 14 years agoin reply to this

First of all, what the heck does breastfeeding have to do with alcohol consumption and heart disease?!?

Second of all, I did say that I was modest when nursing my babies in public.

Thirdly, when a baby nurses, the nipple and areola are in their mouth, so if you were to see a woman nursing in public without covering up, you wouldn't even see the nipple, ever.

Lastly, if you don't like to see a woman nursing in public, YOU go hide behind a bush!

I'm going to go to sleep now before I get banned from the forums for a personal attack...g'night all!

actually i expressed my milk for my son because i worked, and got a full small baby bottle full, and supplemented breast milk with formula...it was actually a relief to express my milk for him because my breasts were quite full and overflowing for lack of a more polite term.

but i didn't feed him in publc mostly because to me that was a very personal thing and i didn't want people gawking at it. i don't think women who do though are wrong...just not my choce.

Edging back on topic here...there were only a couple of times when I had to breastfeed in public, and I'm guessing I must have gotten the modesty thing down because I had a couple of people who didn't realize there was a baby under there stop to ask if I was cold tongue.

That said, I would have loved to be able to breastfeed my son for his first year. At 1 1/2 months he was still almost two pounds under his birth weight and the doctor said it was time to stop. There was very little supply, and what was there just didn't have the calories. He went on to formula and we started having to pay over $150 a month just to feed him...I don't even eat that much in a month!

Now my current significant other and I have been talking about having a baby in the next year or so, and though he does not understand why I want to breastfeed so much, he is very supportive of the choice. He has been helping provide a low-stress environment, a very healthy and balanced diet, and reminds me to take my vitamins so that just maybe it'll work this time. My own preference would be to give the baby breast milk for at least the first year, though I have no problem with expressing it and feeding through a bottle if the baby gets too rough.

I've known several mommies who had good results from Fenugreek, a natural herb (?) that helps to stimulate breastmilk production - something to keep in mind for next time perhaps.

      1. wychic profile image84
wychicposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Yeah, I'm trying to get more of them in...we're thinking one of the biggest problems was that I am very sensitive to grease and my 400lb ex always prepared a lot of deep-fried foods or bought fast food and then tried to run a guilt trip on me if I didn't eat it, or didn't eat what he thought was enough. Since getting away from the grease, it's amazing how many other changes have occurred! My other half and I do eat a lot of lean meats, mostly turkey, chicken, elk, venison, and buffalo. I don't drink as much milk as I should, but plenty of other dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, and yogurt. We grow most of our own produce, too smile.

Luckily, it sounds like all sources agree that the primary problem was the kind of situation I was in at the time, and hopefully the changed lifestyle will make it possible to breastfeed the next baby.

If possible give stress on breast feed as is the best most suitable for you and your baby. A baby does not need a bottle at any age and even one bottle means the end of successful breast feeding. Bottle feeding can be potentially harmful for the baby as it can lead to infections such as acute gastro enteritis or repeated diarrhea and other disorders.

    1. IzzyM profile image87
IzzyMposted 13 years agoin reply to this

One bottle means the end of successfule breast feeding??
      No it doesn't.
And bottle-feeding is only potentially harmful if you feed baby from dirty bottles or teats - ones that haven't been sterilised. I'm an advocate of breast-feeding, but let's not get it out of proportion.
There is nothing wrong with bottle-feeding when done correctly. Don't make bottle-feeding mums feel guilty.
And the occasional bottle gives the breast-feeding mum a much needed rest!
Emphasis on 'occasional' - any more than that and yes it will lead to the end of breastfeeding.

As a breast feeding mom I have to agree.

My baby was on nothing but breastmilk till eight months. However when I was at work that was expressed breast milk - in a bottle.

In fact she started on a bottle due to painful feeding at about a week old.

She's over a year now and she still prefers me to a bottle - however I've cut her down to a late night and early morning feed and formula/cows milk during the day.

There is NO problem giving a baby breast and bottle.

I think it depends a bit on the baby. I got nipple confusion when I was about three months old and stopped wanting the breast. When I had my daughter, I was so worried about that happening (I hate doing dishes - breastfeeding is so much more convenient) that she only had one bottle in the first couple weeks and when I eventually tried to give her another, she screamed like I was trying to murder her!

She never had much enthusiasm for pacifiers either, though I considered that a good thing since she was a fairly quiet baby in general and I've seen how hard it can be to get kids back off them!

Yes, luckily I have a daughter who is such a guts she will drink from anything - me,  bottle, sippy cup, straw or glass. LoL

She did however completely refuse a pacifier.

But my point was that it's completely possible to do both - it doesn't have to be solely one or the other.

Amen Izzy!  I am a mom of four and am a breastfeeding advocate, but am with Izzy to not make moms that bottle feed feel guilty.  A mom can still bond with her baby.  Breastfeeding is not the only way bonding happens.  Yes, it is a special experience and I am glad I chose too but in no way would I make someone else feel bad if they don't.  Any mommy who makes sure her baby is fed and happy is a good mommy! Breast isn't always best! tongue

That is the special time together for a mom and her babe..i would play so much with my sons that they would be busy looking at my face and smiling more than feeding, the kind of bond we developed during that time of almost 2 years is wonderful.. never would advocate the bottle unless it is a necessity..
Nursing your child also helps lose the excess weight gained during pregnancy...
The joy of holding your baby so close to your compares with nothing else at least for me ...
