   All the money was not diverted to pay for a school named after Ted Kennedy, it was one of 778 projects...
   
   It also includes
   
   "- $20 million for Humvee maintenance at an Army National Guard installation in Maine
   
   - $20 million for the Maui Space Surveillance System in Hawaii, requested by Mr. Inouye.

            I'd really like to see sources for that assertion. The Kennedys have never struck me as being very knowledgeable about fighting and winning wars.

               I'm sure he learned a thing or two in 27 years on the Armed Services Committee. I'm sure I heard Orrin Hatch mention what he did in regard to Humvees.

                     It was all over the news after he died. Maybe ask the parents whose son died and who live in Massachussets and how that drove him to push for the armed Humvees. They were going on about it on the news.
                     
                     I'm sure you can find it in Senate transcripts. I don't just pick things out of the air you know.

                                 Actually my anger is twofold.  First the money and troops thing.  Afghanistan is going to be another Vietnam.  It'll be the fault of another Progressive President too.  Secondly UW likes to critique us about what's wrong with the us, but being a Canadian what we do doesn't affect her.  It'll be 200 years in 2012 since we last tried to invade Canada, but some people never forgive and never forget.

   I have every right to comment on what is in this forum. I was just reprinting things that appeared in the article; I was not criticizing the US.

   I have nothing against the US believe it or not. I just get tired of one-sided arguments.
   
   I guess it's progress that you guys are admitting to trying to invade Canada I remember having an argument a few months back and no one would admit the US did that...

      The arguments are not one sided, you call it that because people don't agree with you.  I, personally, have nothing against Canada.  You're good neighbors and I'm so pissed that our government makes us get passports to go over the border anymore.  Hell we have the longest unmilitarized border in the world, that should count for something. 
      
      But being good neighbors means that you allow your neighbor to live as they wish and not beat them down every chance you get.  Are we perfect?  No.  But the US has gone against conventional wisdom since our founding and we've done very well doing things our way. 
      
      As for the not invading Canada thing, so far as I know we've gotten into two wars and almost a third, all three during the first half of the 19th century or the tail end of the 18th.  We almost went to war over a pig, for the good Lord's sake.  The only thing I can think of is that we no longer teach history in school anymore and that's why nobody would admit to us having invaded Canada.
