No, this is not a doomsday forum post. Yes, something major will happen in 2012, as far as astronomy is concerned, but, frankly, no one really knows what it will do to Earth.
Ancient people's used astronomy to create their calendars and were able to predict major space happenings such as comets, eclipses, positions of the planets, positions of the stars, positions of the constellations and lunar patterns by using math and their knowledge of astronomy. So the fact that 3 ancient calendars show something major happening on 2012 isn't science fiction. It's easily predicable.
So what is going to happen in 2012?
Well, for the first time in like 25,000 years (or something like that), the Earth and the galactic center of our Milky Way galaxy will be perfectly aligned. And, supposedly, on Dec. 21, 2012, our Sun and galactic center will be perfectly aligned with Earth.
Since gravity is the major force that keeps the laws of the Universe "in order", some speculate that the extra gravitational pull of the center of our galaxy and the sun could add a little extra tug to Earth and cause a pole shift.
This pole shift would create climate change which would impact our lives to a degree of minimal to devastating. We don't really know how big or small the impact could be.
This is not a doomsday scenario. Earth has always gone through climate changes and this could be an easy indicator of when it will happen next to a noticeable degree (even though we are getting warmer as a planet already).
Wow..I should make a hub out of this topic haha
What do you think of 2012 and the astronomical facts that will occur?
haha I hope it's just a once-in-a-lifetime space event and that's it.
It’s only 3 years remaining to the year 2012. The whole thing has taken 25,000 years. 3 years is negligible compared to 25,000 years – so in reality we are actually there and no sign of anything happening yet.
December 21, 2012 will no doubt be another day just like today.
I think that there will be a magnetic shift similar to what occurs at the spring equinox only on a larger scale. What visual changes take place ??????????
There was a guy who built a fort for himself in the local mountains because he believed that Y2K was going to destroy the world.
A year ago I was hiking through what was left of his ramparts....he did pick a nice little spot... be buried a bunch of rice (still there).
I hope he learned his lesson...
The government run healthcare system will turn old people into soilent green to stop people from starving.
Nothing will happen in 2012. The only thing that could happen is that ETs arrive on planet Earth and teach the stupid earthlings to think in a positive way.
Whatever the events culminating in 21st December 2012 are, they begun years ago. The Maya mentioned nothing about any events which may occur at the end of their Long Count, although admittedly the Catholics did destroy all their books.
What will happen if enough people of the right wavelength come together? It will signal the end of consumerism. This is the only way the human race can continue, we have raped and plundered our Mother earth for only 200 years now and it will take 5,000 years to clear up the mess we have created. True democracy needs to emerge and the end of global corporations will have to occur if we are to move forward into the new age.
Remember we are entering savage new times and words are meaningless in a world full of lies. Zen thoughts but direct action is required. I've got my club and am quite prepared to show 21st century man how it is done. Caveman Style.
2010, the year of the cavemen. Bring it on!

Many news outlets, like CNN, have posted that Leon Panetta is now suggesting Isreal will attack Iran in the spring. Is this a good idea? Should America get involved?

I watched the film and having read in the past about climate change and the Earth's cycles into the ice ages etcDoes anyone believe this could be a reality in the future?

Is 2012 really the end of the world? Why do people keep claiming so?So what's the story behind this hype?

Did it really happen? Or is it a myth, like the moon landing, or the war on terrorism? Have you seen that evolution happening somewhere near your house? Come on...it might be you are just deluded.

I don't have a religion, but I am a pantheist. The reason I chose pantheism is because it isn't a religion, although you can make it one if you wish. Pantheists can even be Christian. I look around me and see nature as the only power. Everything we are, everything we build, everything we destroy,...

Did a big bang really happen?
