I have noticed that I like to have movies or the TV on while I am writing...not so much music as something that I can glance up and watch. Doesn't matter what movie...it's whatever mood I am in like now I am in a horror/suspense movies at the moment.

Anyone else notice that they like to have the TV on or music on while they are writing? And if so what? Meaning what kind of music if music, what kind of movies if any special genres, or what kind of TV shows mainly....

I hate having the TV one when I'm working, but I love hearing classical music. Piano is my favorite to work by. When I need some inspiration, I'll go for a bit more rousing, aka Beethoven.

no t.v. when I'm writing, at times I'll listen to classical or jazzy blues stuff or turn on itunes frenchradio80's music.

I spotted this, and I couldn't resist mentioning that you really need to see the cartoon version of Anastasia (since you like that kind of movie).  The graphics are excellent, and the music is great.  I saw it at the theatre with my daughter when it was out, and I was amazed at the graphics.  Later, after hearing me rave about it so much, my brother gave me the VHS tape for one of my birthdays.  smile  I have all the music in my Mp3 collection.

Hmmm I guess I'll have to rent it from blockbusters and bump it to the top of my list. big_smile I know sad huh? I've seen lots of cartoons and not this one lol

Very nice ladyauthor very nice indeed. that would distract me thought lol

I agree. Classical music is the only music I can listen to while writing/studying. Anything else, like the TV, is too distracting for me. I have been known to put Bach's toccata and fugue in D minor for organ on repeat smile

ooo nice...well then get that music on Zadrobi and get writting on your hubs lol

    zadrobiposted 14 years ago

lol I wish. The only time I'm on here is when I'm doing homework and need a little break. I have debates every week and class all day everyday so I never have time to sit down and get myself to write a hub because I'll just be thinking about some homework that I need to do... By the way... have you ever heard Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah?

For the most part, music seems to be the muse of choice.

Jeff Buckley...Jeff Buckley....nope unless that is the guy who sings it in the Shrek movie. big_smile I'm not much of a classic music girl I'm afraid. Don't get me wrong I love it but...I have to be in a certain mood to listen to it.

And hmmm...write a hub about HW

  20. zadrobi profile image61

Jeff Buckley is fantastic!  My favorite song is Grace, but Hallelujah is very good as well.

As for background:  Music yes, TV no.  Anything visual is going to make it impossible for me to write.  Sometimes even the music is too much though.  Must mean I'm feeble-minded...smile

  23. profile image0
    Crazdwriterposted 14 years ago

Just listened to it and yes it sounds really nice....but it reminds me of Shrek...who sung the song for Shrek?

And yep I am a weirdo! lmao no one likes watching TV or movies when writing? Am I the only one?

If it's night I have the tv in the background (and don't pay attention to it).  It it's day I have talk radio in the background (and don't pay attention to it).  When I'm through writing I'll listen to music on the PC (and pay attention to it).   smile

When I listen to Chopin, he helps me ease myself into visions to help me write. But sometimes yes, I too find myself writing more often in loud hecktic environments; like T.V. but also public places, in my classrooms when everyone is talking and in loud cafe's. I'm not sure what noise triggers my poet to come out, but hey, whatever works right!

I listen to both types of music when I write.  Country and Western.  Some of it makes me laugh, but otherwise I dont pay any attention to what is on TV or radio when I write.  Its like time stops and then boom when I am done several hours have passed.

  27. megs78 profile image61
    megs78posted 14 years ago

Anything can be playing in the background, anything at all, and if I'm wrapped up in my writing, I will not hear it.  I am like a mad scientist when I write.  It all comes to me in a rush and I sit down and write like a crazy woman and nothing can stop me, or distract me...pretty bad actually, especially when you have kids who are trying to get your attention smile
