Well according to many of the pundits Windows 7 - however, if XP is working fine on your home PC and you don't 'care' for the added security and 'cooler' look of Windows 7 then there's really no need to upgrade!

Thanks..I want to buy  a laptop which comes with a preloaded windows 7.However I am comfortable with the Xp in my desktop.I was wondering whether I should insist on xp or buy with windows 7.

I don't think you'll be able to get a new PC with XP soon.....Windows 7 isn't that different from XP - I believe you can set it in 'classic' mode which even looks like XP anyway.

Ummm..OK they took out classic mode in Windows 7 - but if you search the web, there are ways to make it look like the 'classic bar'! From my experience though, you'll get used to the new 'bar' eventually - there are some really cool features!

If you're using XP and you're thinking about upgrading, my advice would be "Don't bother."  If your current computer is working fine, then don't fix what ain't broken!

Eventually you will have to buy a new computer, and it will have Windows 7, and there ya go. Until then, don't shell out the cash just to upgrade your OS.

I just bought a laptop with windows 7 on it and I love it.  It is fast and secure.  My old comp has Vista home premium on it and that was pretty good too, but I do like my 7 better.

I am running XP / Vista and 7 (on 2 desktops and 1 laptop) and can you guess which O/S crashes/hangs the most?

Yes, Windows Vista! I am very surprised with Windows 7 in terms of it's ability to become a worthy sucessor to Windows XP. It has a different feel to it but after a few weeks using it, you will wish that you had the same freedom with XP as you enjoy with 7.

Another plus is that Windows 7 also has native XP application support which should help minimise the cost of software upgrades.

I am envious of MAC users though because I bought an iMac back in 2005 and I have never updated the O/S or any software on it and yet if I switch it on today there won't be any problems when I try to connect to the net or do anything else on it. It doesn't even have anti-virus software yet runs like a dream.. I just could never get used to the single button mouse!

I'm running XP on 2 and Vista business on one PC No problems at all on either (knock on wood)! No need to upgrade yet, let them get the bugs out, although I hear Windows 7 is running great so far, good reviews. smile

To put it simply, I believe Windows 7 is a much faster, more user-friendly, more visualistic, operating system than Windows XP. Why would Windows make something worse for their next generaton of operating systems? I do, however, believe that Vista was a step down from XP, but Windows 7 will make up for that.

Windows 7 is just Vista with slutty red high heels on. The main benefit I see to XP over 7 is that many security holes have been patched with XP by now. I haven't had trouble with Vista on some varied clone equipment, so I'm not sure why folks have so many issues with it. The beta of 7 I played with gave me no grief on my old clones either. One issue with 7 is loop rebooting during the upgrade which Microsoft doesn't know how to deal with yet, so my productions PCs will wait on it. An independent tech forum poster or two has found that 7 reboot probs seem to have to do with manufacturers loading the same image for AMD processors and Intel processors, a common shortcut by lazy IT folks. The AMD processors hang in a loop because they want their OWN image, and why shouldn't they get it? LOL I'm a pro geek...Microsoft has keep me in jobs for years. I'll bite on 7 with caution. It has some great features XP does not.

    Currently using both.

Windows 7 ticks all the boxes. I am yet to find a software / hardware that dont work with Windows 7, so it's looking good so far.

Although never had any issues with XP.

Love it or hate it, you are going to upgrade to Windows 7 soon. 3rd party softwares will stop developing for XP in year or two so you'll upgrade sooner or later. (This happened before with 98 or XP, now again with XP or 7).
