    Hi friends,

I have found a real hubpages clone today, here is the link to one of the hub to that site:  http://66.211.109.29/hub/cellphonetips

I do not know what it is, but I found it while googling for "soni2006 voip" in the search box today.

Here is the link to the original site: http://66.211.109.29/

Previously, I thought that this site is hubpages itself and tried to log in but when I tried to log in, I was unable to do that. Don't know what it is? If anyone has any clue regarding it, please let me know?

        rebekah, do what I did.

        1. Go ahead and type "soni2006 voip" in google without codes.

        2. Now click page 5 in the google search results below.

        3.  You will find a page saying "CELLPHONE TIPS" on the second or third link of Page 5 of that search done by me.

        This way I got it.

Everything I checked looked identical!  Be very careful trying to log in -- alot of these copy-cat site steal your pass word when you try.

Copy-cat pages are most often used to steal banking information, from banking sites.

All web adresses look like that - then they resolve to a domain name.

I tried signing up but could not do so. I guess they are just scraping for personal information.

Seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to to get an email address.

The IP number reverses to: hubwbe11.hubpages.com

So it is a subdomain of the hubpages site on first looks.  So just a gateway.

I don't think there is a need to report it. In my opinion it is a backup site. When hubPages is down, you will still be able to see your content there and somehow Google Bot crawled it. You can't log in because the database backup is not there but the content is there so that Google Bot never sees the site is down and neither the visitors.

You might be right and I could be wrong. But once HubPages was down for maintenance and I could not see their home page but when I entered the URL of one of my hubs it was up there. Plus it might not be a very good idea to place username and passwords of your members on maybe a less secure server or they might be saving some space. Who knows.

EDIT: Could not see the signin page and neither the 'my account' page.

In the meanwhile, I would say for benefit of other users that PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO LOG IN ON THAT SITE as we are not sure about that. It might be possible it is a backup site for HP or a potential hacker trying to steal our personal info.

Whatever it is, it is not meant for earning money out of hubpages as it has the same adsense account ids displayed on its pages which I have checked via the PAGE SOURCE link (Ctrl+U) in my mozilla firefox.

This discovery leads me to believe that this is a backup site for hubpages, around 75% sure now.

We shouldn't treat it as a backup site.

That's because there is no reason for launching the backup in the Internet.

We must treat it as a phishing site, until declared safe.

For safety reasons, they are to be guilty till proven innocent.

Ive found this site before also, couldnt log in, noticed the odd url, did a whois, my final decision was that it was a hub backup or intentional supported clone also.

IF the url resolves to a subdomain of wwww.hubpages.com ...than I have no concerns.

I dont know why its live, but their are duplicates of hubpages for hubpages canada that i run into sometimes.

Just so people know, a web address (URL) such as Hubpages.com is actually just a user friendly 'bookmark' which forwards to one, or several, IP addresses (Such as the string of numbers on that URL). Occasionally search engines will pick up the IP address instead of the URL, often down to misconfiguration.

This turned out to be the case in this instance, however you should always be wary of cloned websites trying to steal your login details!
