This question was asked many times yesterday and here is the shortest answer:
StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com) is a discovery-oriented bookmarking site.
1.Your first step is to sign up for a free account.
2. Installing a toolbar extension would be the next.
3. Choose the topics you are interested in
4. Begin stumbling! (when you click on your newly-installed stumble button, StumbleUpon will show you the top-ranked relevant content recommended by like-minded members)
5. If you like a new site, you can "thumbs up", which means you like it and recommend it. If you don't like what you discovered - "thumbs down". It's that simple.
Why should you consider using Stumbleupon?
1. for traffic (target
2. for networking (connecting with people who share your interests)
Don't get in trouble with Stumbleupon
1. you can't vote for your own site (the easiest way to get banned)
2. you can't hire people to get stumbles (theoretically if you have dynamic IP you can do this, but as I know they now have a very "watchful eye" out for such users and I wouldn't recommend to hire someone to get stumbles).
How to ask somebody to stumble you?
1. When somebody posts "I can stumble you", in order to get a quality "stumble" you need to provide URL, a short recommendation (that you would want people to see), appropriate category and tags. For example
URL http://hubpages.com/hub/Russianborshrecipe
review: This recipe made me hungry! My grandmother used to make Borsh when I was a kid - and I haven't tried it since. I'll have a go at making it soon.
tags: borsch, borscht, russian borsch, recipe for borsch
category:food/cooking
adult: NO
I know that at this point some of you are worried about yesterday stumbling. I provided QUALITY STUMBLES for everyone, with the appropriate category, review and tags.
I'm not an expert, but I do know that the readers I want to encourage are those who are going to click on my ads - and I've read several posts on these forums testifying to the fact that readers from Stumbleupon don't, so it's low on my priority list.
You are not targeting the Stumbleupon community, but Stumblers that might "google" for your keywords. You are right that Stumbleupon is not for every business. It is definitely not working for ecommerce sites (but they have an advertising option which work better for ecommerce) and business related topics. But you are one step ahead of your competitors when someone from the StumbleUpon community "google" for your product and your listing is highlighted. If any review were left, it is immediately available and I can tell you - it brings your more customers. So, everyone who has the Stumbleupon bar installed, will be able to read all reviews for your hub/blog/site.
You have an amazing amount of expertise about all this, seohowto, while I am still on a very steep learning curve. I ccan't quite figure out how Stumbleupon works. A fellow hubber submitted one of my hubs and it got something like 350 pageviews from stumbleupon in and hour or so-- for a couple of days the traffic just went up and tup and then died..... then acouple of weeks later a new round of traffic--why I don't know. To date that hub has had over 1500 pageviews from stumbleupon. Now I have submitted a couple of my other hubs and have not gotten more than 40 or 50 visitors from them--can you explain why to a puzzled stu;mbler? Oh and one more thing-- how can I give a thumbs up on stumbleupon to a specific website that has already been submitted? All I know how to do is hit "Stumble' in the toolbar. I'm not too sure how to use the search option.
Sorry to be so long winded-- hope ;you don't mind.

Today I posted my new hub, called 'How to get the Perfect Night's Sleep' and when I came back hours later it had garnered nearly a 100 hits! I checked the traffic source, and it was StumbleUpon.

One of my hubs recently got a small flurry of hits from stumbleupon.com. Can someone tell me how and why that occurred on that hub -- and not on any other? Are you supposed to be signed up such groups to draw their readers?

If you haven't yet tried posting your HubPages articles to this site - you should do so today and see if it boosts your traffic - I've had great success with this over the last 2 days.

I find I either get almost no traffic from SU, or hundreds of impressions in a day. Anyone know why it works this way?
