I'm finding it difficult to reach 100 hayz, my highest so far was 99 few weeks ago, and last week 98, now I'm stuck with 94-96. When I posts hubs sprinkled with research my author score gets hurt and wounded but we need traffic to boost our stock right, and research is the best way to accomplish it? Can you give me advice on how to get that elusive 100 score, I'm getting paranoid with it already aw, and getting sick...

Why bother?  It's nice for the ego but it has no other tangible advantage.  Traffic is what pays the bills.

Good question.  Thanks.  I was wondering the same thing myself, but after reading all the replies am going to try not to worry about it as much.  Thanks everyone for your feedback.

It took me five months to achieve my first 100 ... To be honest, it felt great, but now it's deflating in nature as I worked so hard for it and found myself at a loss for my next goal.

If your author score is in the 90s you are doing fantastic. Hitting 100 didn't make me a better hubber, nor did it open any new doors for me. If anything, it makes me have to work harder to hit 100 again, to prove to myself it wasn't a fluke.

Give it a month or so of doing what you are already doing and you will hit 100 ... and then you will wish like me that the goal still stood in front of you. smile

Ask frogdropping. She came along real quick if that's what your after. She followed Darkside's advice a lot along with some other great hubbers too. I got up to 99 once a long time ago, but don't really care much about it at all. I just do my thing.

Traffic is more important. You can't make a reasonable amount of money without it.  Having said that, I admire those Hubbers with a constant 100 Hub score - They must be genius.

Hope you get to 100 soon. smile

I find the more hubs I write the worse my hub score becomes and the same can go for my hubs. The ones with good google earnings have the worst hub score for some reason. The hubs I don't rate as much come in with fantastic hub scores. So now I think it means very little as long as you are enjoying and getting the traffic.

I think that you'd better to concentrate on writing and traffic and then.. one day you'll open your account and see that you've reached 100. wink

    Gotta vote for traffic here.
    If I got 1000 hits a day to a Hub with a 60 score, I wouldn't complain at all.
I've watchedd my scores bounce from 88 to 93 to 71 in a single day, sometimes within hours.
But as long as the traffic is still coming in, I don't care.

I am a newbie here and am not well versed with this system. Though, I have noticed that every time I go back to my hub and edit it and add or re-do some ideas and give a better structure and form to the ideas within the hub, traffic builds up, and the score on the hub rises, how and why, I do not know. At this juncture, I cannot even think about earning, but  I try hard to work on the hub, timex.

There's a variety of metrics that go into the Hub Score. Remember, this is a social site. So...act socially. wink

As far as traffic, you can always gain that numerous ways. The two are intertwined.

I got to 100 a few times before, It really depends on a lot of factors. I don't let it worry me, I just think of it as a score of my current progress, and if its low and i know it should be higher I blame others writing about my stuff.

I guess as long as your hub score is above 75 you have nothing to worry about , commenting and writing forum posts tend to increase it a lot

Well I hit a high of 89 in my author score and than sank like a stone for some reason. Maybe I use the word Vitamin C too many times in one hub? Or maybe my links are bad although I did follow the rules as I understand them.

Right now, I'm not worried about it. My hubs aren't getting a ton of traffic yet. Once I'm getting traffic, I'll see how that impacts the scores, but I have to say, it is kind of disheartening to see how randomly the numbers change.

well when I joined I started out at 50. I posted a hub and watched my score go up. I've gotten as high as 92 but now fluctuates in 80's. I've added adsense and amazon but I've decided for the time being on focusing on what I'm writing. I've gotten nice compliments on that and for now that's what works for me.

Someday the money may come, but for now I'm sticking with patience and learning how to write. big_smile

I think traffic is slower on the weekends, which might explain the blue arrows.

How many people do more than SEO in their keywords to gain traffic?  I haven't seen too much traffic to my hubs, but I haven't done much on my own to achieve traffic either...

I keep forgetting that we're supposed to be trying to make money here - I get distracted and start reading, commenting, reading some more, write a hub, read some more...HubPage warning: may induce ADD!

I've seen no significant different between an author score in the mid-90s and 100.  My Hubs seem to draw the same amounts of traffic and sales regardless.

For example, yesterday I was ranked at 99, today I'm at 98.  But my AdSense shows I'm earning more today than yesterday.  Go figure...

I'm still new so hopefully I can be dumb and irreverant, for a while anyway.

Do veteran Hubbers use HuPages as a primary revenue generating tool or as an alternative to posting articles at Ezine and the other top article directories for the purpose of generating backlinks to outside sites?

I'm mentally still in category 2.

    1. Marisa Wright profile image85
Marisa Wrightposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Both.  Originally it was my primary revenue generating tool, but now I've moved on to creating my own websites, I use it for backlinks as well.  It's a great setup, to be able to do both in one place.

I'm still very new at this but of the hubs I've read, it appears  that interaction causes the score to go up and the higher the score, the more you get read (more traffic) so your question is really circular.  I try to pay attention to my score for that reason but it fluctuates a lot, my goal is just to at least try to reach and maintain 90 or above but it's a challenge since I'm so new.  I'd love to know what a "good" traffic amount is for a hub?

  27. Sara Tonyn profile image60
    Sara Tonynposted 14 years ago

Traffic is more important by far.

Make money with your hubs by getting traffic; more traffic = better chance of Google ads getting clicked.

More traffic = greater exposure to potential client$ or publisher$

An author score means nothing outside of HubPages, and truth be told, it doesn't matter much inside HubPages! big_smile

Being an author with a score of 100 isn't something you have 100% control over, so stop stressing, get writing and it'll just happen.

I am often a 100 and sometimes not.  I was 100 when I went to sleep, I was 99 today when I woke up.

It's nice to see, but if you stress about trying to get there, the stress when it goes again will be double.

Just enjoy writing hubs, join in here, etc etc and one day it'll just happen - and you might not even notice it as you're too busy researching, writing or joining in with the community.

    All the best.

I've found my highest-traffic Hubs are also the ones with the highest Hub score, so I'm assuming traffic increases the Hub score?  Those are also the ones that are primarily the reason for about 70% of my earnings.  There will be a day or two with tons of blue arrows, and then another day there are tons of red ones.  I just go with "whatever".

As far as author score goes, I don't pay attention to it.  As someone else said, one day you just notice you have 100 - and then, blam, it's down to as much 4 and then 8 points.  I notice it goes down when I ad a Hub or two and assume that's because they start out at 50 and bring the average down.

Traffic happens (even without promoting) when you write about stuff people search for and have a title that relates directly to what they search for.

Honestly I haven't found any rhyme or reason to it so I try not to obsess about my score. Sometimes I stay at 100 for a long time, then I'll dip down for a few weeks.

I haven't been writing as much here with all the medical crap going on at home this past month, so I'm down and so is my traffic. But it's not the end of the world.

I suppose it depends on what our goals for hubpages are. I am more interested in publishing and reading content that will be helpful to Christians as we strive to live the Christian life and general interest articles. But if the goal is money, then it seems that one would follow the suggestions and advice of those who are making it. I think both author score and getting traffic are important with author score having the edge.

  32. profile image55

I would think that every hub with score above 75 is more important than the author score.

When my hubscore starts to drop, I know it's time to write another hub.  I haven't been that prolific (working on changing that), and that's one way to keep me writing.

Hi, my scores go up and down but for some reason I have had 877 people read one of my hubs today! I think it was because someone wrote about the same subject in the local paper, but not from my hub i don't think, and people have got curious about the subject. I hope it stays this high but I doubt it, it was nice though. Nell

    1. darkside profile image65
darksideposted 14 years agoin reply to this

It will taper off, even drop off quickly, but it's a definite win. You might see a slight rise in the average number of daily visitors as a few of those visitors then email the hub to others or link to it from their own blogs or the keyword/s supplying traffic see a rise in the search results.

Thanks darkside, it was exciting though! one thing i found today is a good idea, and that is put in the name of your best hub in google search and see if anybody is writing about it. I did it with this one and found two random people who don't belong to hubpages talking about it. one was on twitter and the other was on something called kundalini religion sites. it's a good way to find other things to write on. lol Nell
