Hi, I just made a hub on Barbecueing and all the cool stuff you can do with them. I was just wondering if there were any BBQ veterans who know any ideas for something different from the usual sausage and burgers affair?
I'm appealing to the american and australian crowd really as they seem to be the masters of the grill from the research I did! (trailer hitch massive BBQs?!)
Any ideas, no matter how wacky they are!
Oh, and smokers, anyone used them before? I miss the old charcoal smell and taste now that we've got a propane one instead
If you are looking for recipes this one is my favorite.
The best BBQ Rib Recipe
But you said you have a propane grill which immediately discounts you from being considered a serious BBQer
It all depends on the grill I guess, but even the NY Times thinks Propane BBQs are for pussies.
I absolutely prefer charcoal, but every once in a while, I see a big beautiful gas grill, and I want it. I usually get over it quickly, though. By and large, I agree with the NY Times.
Whoa, I've obviouslystuck a nerve there with you mark! :-)
I do miss the old barrel BBQ we had, it's still around but whenever we have a party my dad uses tthe Propane one simply because you can ge tmore done and manage different heats for different meats!
There's nothing better than a proper charcoal fire though, the difference between propane and charcoal on sausages alone is enough to keep me using the barrel when a small group of friends come round!
Cheers for the links to the recipes though, I'll definately check them out!
Yes ,in India we still barbequeeng a lot of varieties.
Some of to name are Dal-bati-churma, Bazre ki roti, Kadhi etc.
But all are vegetarian food. If you need recipe, can contact me.

Here in the South, we grill all year since the climate is so mild. After refurbishing our gas grill on the average of three times a year, we decided to try out the ceramic charcoal grills. We got the large Big Green Egg and haven't regretted the decision once. A guy that worked at my company had bought one and EVERY Monday, he came in raving about what he had cooked over the weekend. I thought that if it was that good, we should give it try. It holds enough for a crowd and doubles as a smoker. A steak done on that baby will make you throw rocks at that Australian steak house chain. (No disrespect to our Aussie friends). We do mostly New York Strip Steaks, burgers, seafood, poultry and pizzas. It uses lump, or natural, charcoal which lasts longer than the regular briquettes.Throw in some Mesquite chips and you can rival the best steak houses in Texas. It does have a learning curve, but there are many forums about this amazing grill. Whenever we invite someone to dinner, they always want to know if we are going to grill out. I also agree with the New York Times. Happy Grilling!

I make my own BBQ sauce and since I started that, my whole family wants me to keep them supplied. They even have some of their friends wanting it all the time but I have to charge them a little to pay for jars and ingredients. One of my son's friends likes it very hot and he says he puts it on everything. He even uses it for a chip dip. I add habenaro peppers to his when I make it for him.
I like to put a roast in a crock pot and add bbq sauce to it and let it cook all day.
Besides ribs, my favorite thing to grill is Beer Can Chicken and corn on the cob. <removed hyperlinks>
I can throw just about anything on the grill, be it fish, meat, sausages, corn on the cob (leave it in the husk), potatoes (wrap in foil), vegetables, beans (I throw those in a pot and put it right on the grill to heat).
I enjoy cooking with gas or coals, though I like the flavor more over the latter.
I also make my own sauces and marinades.
And the best part is that I'm a woman. (Ironically, an American woman who will soon be marrying an Australian man. )
I like Johnsonville Bratwurst, and I really think it's under rated. After watching those commercials where a guy simmers the Brats with onions and beer and finishes it by grilling gets me drooling all the time. So now these days whenever we have our cook outs we still get hot dogs for the kids, but the Brats are for the grown ups.
While I agree that charcoal grilling is best for cooking - I have a gas grill. Not only for the environment - but also for my own inhalation system!! Seriously, you can grill anything. I've done dessert on the grill (fruit sprinkled with a little sugar) and all types of meats, seafood and vegetables! They all taste awesome.

Despite my better judgement, I purchased a Kamado BBQ. It should arrive before christmas, so I'm looking forward to doing some serious grilling. Anyone have any favorite Kamado style recipes to share?
