Why is it so hard to make people understand about copyright? There is so much misunderstanding and outright ignorance of it out there...

Oh just a fall out from the great picture hub controversy. People are convinced if a picture does not have a watermark that it's free for the taking. And then there are the other people who just copy and paste text from other sites.  Luckily, this time it's no one taking my work...

My understanding may be way out dated. Doesn't putting a 'c' into a circle, copyright any kind of art work, including written?

It should, but actually if you publish something it is copyrighted to you, with our without the mark.

My knowledge of copyright law is limited, but some is pretty obvious.

Years ago a young gal renting a room from me copied one of my poems.  She put it on a poster as a gift for her sister.  She thought I would be flattered.

Would you e-mail to me a very honest critique of my work?  You have already read it.  I know you have an opinion.

I have to shut down the computer.  I am getting an alert about vertual memory.  I sincerly value your opinion.  I can take it, really.

I give up. I am tired of banging my head against the wall trying to explain to people about copyright. Let them find out for themselves what can happen...

Please do explain this.  I responded with my limited knowlege, what am I missing?

Sorry, I wasn't talking about you smile

That was a lousy thing for someone to do with your poem. I feel the same way trying to explain to some people about copyright.

She never did understand.  Probably had no idea that it was wrong.  Accually I was more upset with the invasion of privacy, the poem was personal.

I know the feeling. My roommate read my diary once, I have never forgotten it even though we are still friends.

She actually went into my room, and found it in my desk.  Needless to say, she was asked to find another place to live.

At least she could have asked first, that was more important than the copyright issues.

She was also ignorant, which does explain a lack of manners.
