There is a film made of your life. Who would play the leading role?

    I guess this is a two-part question.

Who would you want to play you?  Of all the screen legends I'd probably opt for Steve McQueen or one of the French New Wave actors like Alain Delon or Roger Duchesne, star of the criminally neglected classic Bob le flambeur [Bob the Gambler].

These actors had the art of being effortlessly cool precisely because they never consciously tried to be cool (although McQueen liked to show-off by upstaging his co-stars).

    Second part:

If a director had the casting vote who would they pick?

In my case I reckon they might choose Norman Wisdom in his prime, maybe Stan Laurel, anyone prone to the pratfall or misunderstanding.

    What about you?

The guy who painted Blue Poles might be my choice but by the time my story gets interesting there will be a new slew of actors around so who knows. On second thoughts maybe I'd like someone like Basil Rathbone to play me. He did a great Sherlock Holmes and Holmes was always experimenting with the arts including writing. I am a bit of an historian as well as writer so that should be taken into account, too.

I wouldn't permit a film to be made of my life. Hence, the lead role would go to no one.

Makes sense...but what if they made an UNAUTHORIZED version?  You know, 'cause you're so appealing to the public and the tabloids and the paparazzi, and they know they'd make gazillions....

As far as looks are concerned, I think I'd choose Tom Cruise, even though I don't like him. And he is only a tiny, tiny bit better looking than me. But would he manage the British accent?

The Director would probably choose a slimmed-down version of Rowan Atkinson ...

Hmm -- Tom would have to lose quite a bit of weight, too.

Alyssa Milano - I've been told by more than one person that we look somewhat similar. We are both Italian, native New Yorkers, same coloring (hair and eyes) - I think she'd be able to pull it off.

    First part:
Who would you want to play you?

Angelina Jolie, I love that womans lips.  But I want her curves back for the role.  The emaciated look is not good on her.

    Second part:
If a director had the casting vote who would they pick?

    Clea DuVall

They're all different ages, but Meg Ryan (because of "type" and age), Jennifer Aniston (type and coloring).  Possibly Sally Field, if her hair were lightened or Kelly Martin (if it was about my earlier days).    lol  The casting person would probably go with Jennifer Aniston (or else an unknown, of course).

Al Pacino , no real reason I just like his movies !

I would have to choose Heath Ledger to play myself. If only for the amazing job he did as the Joker.

However, if it wasn't my choice then the role would probably go to Jake Gyllenhaal (we look somewhat alike) or Steve Carell (we have a similar sense of humor).

Christina Ricci, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, or Ellen Page

Well, it would have had to be Katherine Hepburn.  The long brown hair/blue eye thing, and she was independent and classy in everything she did.

I might end up with Anne Hathaway ... classy yet clumsy.

although this is going to make me sound very conceited, but i've often fantasized about my life as a movie, sometimes.  not because i think it would be like a blockbuster or anything like that.  Or that i have self deluded dreams of stardom and fame.  No, i just think of how great it would be, so people could finally understand me as a person.

Personally, i wouldn't mind seeing either jeremy piven play me in a movie, since he's not a freaking super model, but he looks more like a regular average looking guy. which is basically what i am.  im not a great looking guy, but im certainly not ugly either.   So he already has that look about him.  then as far as acting speed goes, he was able to play a conservative, nerdy, neurotic guy in the HBO FILM, "Don King: Only in America."  Which fits my personality to a "T" in real life.  That's why if i had to pick one actor to play me, then I would pick him out.

    Stevennix2001posted 14 years ago

plus, to add to that.  i can see my dad being played by burt young, since he not only has the same look but his portrayal of paulie, in the "Rocky" series, is exactly how my dad is in real life.  Then I would cast michelle yeoh to play my mom.  she doesn't look exactly like my mom, but i think she could pull it off since she is a great asian actress.

my brother and the rest of my friends i've met over the years that played key roles in my life, whether good or bad, i'll have to think about it.

I'd love it if Angelina Jolie would do the part.  I don't care what the trash mags say about her, I think she's great.

I think Drew Barrymore would do a good job of me, but I doubt if she would find the role up to her usual quality.  In reality it would probably have to be some B-grade total unknown, maybe an unknown porn-star!  lol  not because there'd be much sex or anything, but just because they would be willing to speak my ridiculous lines and there would be absolutely no plot!  big_smile:

you could always get anna farris to play you, she's always willing to say ridiculous lines in her movies all the time.  lol
