you should consult your doctor, or the diabetic, before starting any exercise program as your doctor is the only one who can say what exactly your limitations are due to your health.

I did some extensive research for my hub and found out that body interprets extreme exercise as stress. Stress hormones cause the blood sugar to rise. Moderate exercise, on the other hand, helps to regulate blood sugar in diabetics. When a person exercises moderately, muscles use more glucose. Regular exercise increases the insulin sensitivity, helps to keep the weight off, and improves the cardiovascular health.

I agree with Diminique, but how do you define strenuous? When I run I take reading before and after, to see what effect it had. After several sessions over time you will be able to judge for yourself. I would say don't be afraid to exert yourself, but cardio type exercise will reduce your glucose, because your muscles use it when working. There is also the sometimes effect that if you exert your body will release stored glucose to help you sustain the activity. In this way it may actually increase for a short term, but the net effect as she states is that exercise decreased insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes. I also agree, moderate, but you need to sweat, increase heart and respiratory rates, and check you glucose maybe an hour after you exercise.

    Exercise  are  always  very good.

But  there  is  a  limit  also.

Do not  exceed more  than  e  specific  limit.

If  you exceed  than  you  get  in  trouble.

Yes--strenuous exercise can cause an increase in blood sugar levels, but it also gets the muscles to take in the blood glucose more quickly. Diabetics need to adjust their food intake and medications (ie insulin) when participating in strenuous exercise, but exercise is absolutely essential for diabetics for a host of reasons.

The only thing that I know that might stop a diabetic from exercising is if their blood sugars are already running extremely high, like in the 600s or so. Their doctor might want them to wait until their BGLs come down a bit before exercising.

All this stuff about limiting exercise and not doing certain types of exercise is complete and utter nonsense. Exercise is the biggest thing that is going to HELP diabetics.
