Amy Jane has written a great hub about the TV Show LOST.

My question to watchers of this addictive show is this.

Why Oh why would they give Mr. Ecko such a rich and detailed backstory with so many possibilities and then kill him off so abruptly and then have no one ever mention him again?

My guess is the actor and producers had a tiff. No other way to explain it. I mean they fired Libby and Anna Lucia for the crap they got into in Hawaii but...

NOT MR. ECKO! Besides Ben and Desmond, Mr. Ecko is My Favorite!!!

Jamie,  that is a really interesting point. I know they killed off Charlie for the sake of the story line.  (I wasn't really heartbroken about that)  Charlie still appears to people also, but Ecko doesn't.

I think that Ecko was "judged" by smoky as guilty. He was one of my favorites too.  His story line was so deeply tied into the island and the philosophy of the show.

Ben is one of your favorites?  I think he is pure evil and don't like him at all.

I don't LIKE Ben, but I'm an Actor first, you see.  The guy playing that part has got a grip on that show and America and I guarantee you this.  In the END, Ben will be redeemed as someone who was not put in charge (By Jacob?) for NO Reason.   HE IS THE SAVIOUR OF THIS ISLAND.   Its just that he doesn't mind being ruthless in order to protect it.   KEEP IN MIND, we don't really know the TRUE power of the Island at all yet.    Ben MIGHT Be SAVING all of NORMAL CIVILIZATION from the something evil too.

Benjamin Linus is not someone to hate.  As an actor we are taught about the motivation of each character in the scene.  BEN (or the actor playing him) is always playing a motivation that is hidden to the audience.

i submit to you this, We 'hate' him ONLY because he knows things we want to know but won't tell us.  That is reason why no matter how rediculous the next BEN suggestion is, we go along with it.  Why?  Because we also TRUST that HE knows what's best for us.  We as an audience (Just like all members of Oceanic Flight)  are on a NEED to know basis.

My next Q:   WHY WAS CLAIRE IN JACOB'S HOUSE?

I watched The Bourne Identity at the weekend and the guy who was Mr Eko was in that too, completely forgot that!

I thought it sucked a bit since they went through his story in the notorious second/third season slump.  The whole deal with his brother's plane and why he was killed off seemingly for no reason seemed harsh, perhaps the island's monster (some form of time correciton device) thought Ecko would be too tough in a fight between him and someone who would later leave the island.  Can't remember if there was any animosity between him and other islanders.

Anyway, on a separate note the monster like I mentioned before being a time correction device if you've ever played the video game Prince of Persia: Warrior Within they have a monster just like the smoke monster from lost called the Dahaka, it's job is to correct time anomalies.  I think that's what the one in lost is doing, especially withthe time travel elements that people have been discussing recently.
