Despite my better judgement, I purchased a Kamado BBQ.  It should arrive before christmas, so I'm looking forward to doing some serious grilling.  Anyone have any favorite Kamado style recipes to share?

A Kamado Grill is similar to a ceramic oven, but it's heated with charcoal, gas or wood.  A few of the benefits of the Kamado is that they can cook at low temperatures for long cooks, or they can sear meat in minutes at over 700 degrees.

I didn't know what they were, so I googled them. wow, they're beautiful and what great features to be able to use different sources of heat.

yummm... maybe your next hub? big_smile

looks like it would be perfect for area with a lot of outdoor grilling.

I own a large Big Green Egg which is a type of ceramic BBQ that used chunk charcoal.  It sounds exactly like what has been described.  I absolutely love it and use it all the time.  I would never go back to a gas grill.
I have a lot of favorite recipes.  It slow cooks ribs to perfection but it also outstanding for steak cooked at 700 degrees.

Yes, the Kamado and Big Green Egg are similar grills.  Still hoping my grill arrives before christmas.  Not looking good right now.

My Kamado should arrive the first week of January.  It will have taken over four months, but it should be worth it with all the tasty bbq I can cook for the years to come:)

you should have ordered it from me.  I stock the primo oval and you'd have had it in three or four days.  I use a kamado and i was just writing a hub about it and found this post.  I recently cooked our thansgiving turkey on it, like i always do and it was awesome!  We do the beercan-chicken style based on my own invention and smoked it with cedar/hickory this year.  I keep the temperature around 175 - 200 and it took approximately 6 hours for a 12lb bird.
We went to a extended family dinner and several people said it was the best turkey they'd ever eaten.  I hear that from someone every year but i never get tired of hearing it again.
I also do chicken on it often but I cook leg/thighs at 350 with cedar chips.  They burn up fast and leave a slight sweet cedar after taste without having to cook all day.

When people come into the store and say "gimme the best you've got"  i always lead them to the kamado section.  They usually ask for gas but I take the time to explain that very few gas grills can compete with tis kind of flavor.  The design is an old japanese cooker thousands of years old and it has lasted for a great reason.
