How are you increasing your revenue?

I've been trying to write more hubs geared toward our affiliates (eBay and Amazon). I'm probably taking a wild card shot at this one, but we'll see if they generate anything. I'm have several other series saved to work on, as well. I'm just taking blind shots in the dark, but I'm hoping for a few sales in the least. Once I finish the two series I have opened, I'm going to probably start on more hubs geared towards help topics, in attempts to work with Adsense more. But, right now, I'm trying to get my product affiliates bumped up and more stable. I'll probably also go back through my eBay and Amazon reports and try to find hubs that have sold the most and make a few more along those lines.

What are you doing if anything to raise your revenue?

I've read quite a few hubs by well established hubbers, and understood that this is a waiting game. Since publishing 13 hubs, i have gone back to some of them and commercialised them more. The main thing for me is i'm being patient, and publishing as many hubs as possible. Also i remember eading that it could take upto 6 months to see any revenue coming in. I only started about 3 weeks ago, and enjoying just writing and getting involved in the community!

You have to mix it up and I think you are on the right trac Whitney.  Write for the longterm with evergreen hubs and for the short term with product hubs. Evergreen hubs must be keyword optimized, product hubs generally do not.

Knowing the retail calendar helps and you always have to be a couple months ahead of the game.

No, no, product hubs need to be keyword optimized every bit as much as evergreen hubs. I don't use a keyword analyzer to pick out my niches, but boy do I use them to write the ad copy. I think this is an affiliate's job. I usually have a list of about 25 to 50 keywords that I think about when I write each product hub. I'll check on product hubs as necessary, usually by the season, to make sure that the keyword strategy is still relevant.

But to answer Whitney's about increasing revenue, I am still playing around with Ebay - focusing less on seasonal items.

I tried to write a hub today without including any products on it, but I just had to add 1 ebay capsule. However it was definitely not a product oriented hub. Trying to think in terms of adsense as well.

I'll also try and work some other affiliate programs into the mix. I don't feel too bad doing this because I'm providing so many backlinks from my other websites to hubs right now.

lol I don't think it hurts the article any if you place a product in it.  I wrote a pretty long travel hub and added some travel guides to it from Amazon.

All of my product hubs get decent traffic and I didn't do much keyword research on any of them.  Just to see if anyone was searching for the brand name or type of product.  But with a 3% to 8% keyword density and my product hubs being less than 500 words, I only need a few instances of my keywords.

I still have the keyword in my title, url, summary, heading of text module, title of video module, and caption for any pictures...lol if you want to call that optimized.

  5. profile image0
    Nelle Hoxieposted 14 years ago

Yeah, if your hubs are that short, there isn't much to optimize, that's why I'm shooting for 800 word minimum if not closer to 1,000. More possible keywords.

I am not sure if this means much to anyone, as far as revenue generation, but I've manage to make over $3.00 in revenue so far in 2 months.

Please do realize- I do not have ads for my hubs nor are my Hubs backlinked anywhere, that I know of. I do have a mixture of some photo Hubs, recently transformed to get more clicks and some of my Poems have no comment section, because I don't need comments on certain poems I've written. I know which of my poems are the most traveled and have left the comment section available to those poems.

As far as what you said, with regards to creating Hubs as quickly as you can...I was here about 2-3 weeks and I had about 19 Hubs completed, then worked my way up to my goal, which was 40. Now, I'm taking my time producing hubs and I've planned for a release of multiple Hubs, which are connected together, because the information is even too long for a Hub. I've broken it down by sections or chapters, for others to read, but I have also been working on this for about 3 weeks, in and of, itself.

    Hope I helped. big_smile

I have found a strong backlink campaign that incorporates mostly sites that use a form of revenue share or other article sites that pay for content

(maximize content revenue and earn from your own backlinks)

has lead to more traffic and more earning here at hubpages but also at all associated sites, I like the idea of earning from the same research or knowledge 10 times over.

Right now and as a plan for 2010, I have been wrapping my head around search trends (not hot trends) and planning on incorporating that into my revenue strategy.

Did you know that January is top time for online searches relating to Prom Dresses?...Finding data of this variety should lead to a great 2010 season

Nelle Hoxieposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Yep, I remember the serious quest for the perfect prom dress all to well. Different demographics search for prom dresses at different times. Starting in January through the late spring. Lots of research has been done about teen age girls and proms. I get a nervous stomach just thinking about it.

The data I am reading does not show a difference in demographics, the largest spike has been in january for the last 5 years that search data has been archived. Im sure there are peaks that relate to each class/levels dates for prom but surprisingly January is the month, im hoping to find more unusual spikes and trends that are more in my knowledge base

im using the same source as this guy

I read the studies in a book. It showed how searches in different income levels spike differently. I'll look through my stuff it was a really interesting book. Bascially rich teenagers shop first and affect the purchases later in the cycle. It is a book that came out about 1.5 years ago. About using internet data to understand cultural norms among different demographics and how they interact. Something like SuperCrunchers. Unfortunately i have a whole bookcase of books that cover the subject.

It isn't really that important to keywords and sales during that 3 month period. I can be too much of a data mining geek sometimes. And yes prom dresses spike in January. No girl wants to be left with the last dress.

Nelle Hoxie, I like the way you format your hubs and lead the reader, but I would like to ask about Amazon VS. ebay.  As far as I have seen on your hubs, you stick with ebay.  Do you even do Amazon?  If not, why not?  If you can do Amazon, why do you choose to go with ebay so often?

For the others who read this, what is your affiliate of choice for HP.  Amazon or ebay?  And why?

For me it is Amazon, maybe because I know no better...

I have over 200 hubs dedicated almost exclusively to Amazon. I am afraid that Massachusetts or Maryland - the two states in which I live - will pass an internet sales tax law - thus causing Amazon to boot me out of their program. Ebay doesn't boot people out because of the state sales tax, so I started to write Ebay hubs in October, I now have about 150. (I write under othr identities so the number isn't equal to Nelle's hubs.) I believe in lots of diversity.

I have not yet created any product hub yet but only concentrated on ever green hubs on various issues.

I have not even tried to market my hubs much and researched keywords only few days back.

I am in real life business and revenue from hub pages is not my priority. I love writing (Just published my 100th hub)and to be with people like you.

I use Amazon over ebay, I simply enjoy better earnings with them, on one of Nelle's Hubs/forum posts however, I remember her writing that she experienced the complete opposite, better eBay earnings.

If you are unsure which is best for you, why not try them both, alternate between eBay and Amazon on your hubs each week for a month or two, you should see a definite trend!

It may sound like  alot of work, but it could have hundreds of dollars benefit for you, maybe thousands!

I was thinking about doing just that.  Or to offer them both as a comparison.  I have had some luck with amazon but my conversion rate is like 1 sale out of about 200 clicks.  And I would like to know if ebay is better.

  13. profile image0
Wag The Dogposted 14 years ago

Would you be willing to share your conversion rates, clicks to sales?  As i stated above, for me, with Amazon, it takes about 200 clicks to make 1 sale.  If you do not wish to say, that is fine.  But thank you.  Now I am going to have to see if I can find out your alter egos.  I bet there is a devious one out there somewhere. smile

I honestly have stopped following that type of data. I know how much money I want to make and I just keep pushing until I make the money. The only metrics I worry about are google traffic and money in the bank.

There are better ways to use your time than to follow me around HubPages. (None of my alter egos are devious, just very hardworking and creative.)

I am planning on revising all old hubs and I might do ebay.  I have only made $40.00 on ebay but I hardly sell as much.  That will also change.I will try other things as well because I want it bad.  I have confidence that I can write better.

Looks like many of you are using keyword searches for products?

    1. livewithrichard profile image72
livewithrichardposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Only to see if the product is popular enough to write about.  If there is little search traffic for the product or brand then it's not worth writing about, unless of course its a new fad product and you want to jump on for some quick earnings.  I don't expect those fad product hubs to be worth much in the long run but I'll milk them while I can.

  19. Whitney05 profile image83
    Whitney05posted 14 years ago

There are many "fad hubs" that have lasted me a good while. I still get several sells from hubs that I thought would be temporary.

I took a few stabs in the dark for toys using a few commercials that I saw, and they've done well. But, toys are so unpredictable and are generally fads, so I don't expect them to continue selling long term as well as they are now.

My plan for the new year is to write a series of travel hubs around the area in Spain that i come from. Travel works well for adsense - high pay per click and also people are likely to click ads if they're looking for a holiday where you're writing about. This is what I've found with my other travel hubs anyway.

My other aims for the year are to get 3000+ visitors a day and £10 adsense a day. I'm also going to rework hubs that don't get much traffic - maybe start again with a new url.

I'm focussing on adsense because I'm crap at the selling thing tongue

I try to alternate between subjects I think will prove popular and more quirky subjects.  Am taking it slowly, at my own pace so am not expecting immediate results.

I might start doing research first to discover niches in the market and then write hubs around this in future.  Sometimes I have trouble finding decent resolution images for my hubs so might treat myself to a scanner next year.
