Suggestion: Add author score to customizable home page

I'm a newbie and I just discovered the customizable home page.  It's VERY cool and VERY well implemented.

But one thing I miss from the standard home page is seeing my author score.  On the standard home page, my profile picture has the author score superimposed on the lower right corner (as it usually is on all author pics).  But on my customizable home page, this author score is missing.

It's certainly easy enough to see my score by going to "my profile" or to one of my Hubs, but now that I discovered I can customize my home page to be exactly what I want, it would be awesome if I didn't need to go to another page unnecessarily.

Anyway, the customizable page is indeed AWESOME as is.  But (I think) this minor tweak would make it even better.

You'll find that the longer you're here, the less interested you will be (or should be) in your Hubber Score.

I had that same thought.  But (annoyingly), I now seem to be hovering at 74, so I am particularly eager to see myself break 75.

When my author score (hopefully) starts to live in the 90's like you, I think you are right and I won't care too much ;-)

I've seen you sit at 74 and looking through your hubs, I have no idea why.

Original content, well presented, not going over the outbound link limit. Traffic might be a contributing factor, but as you get indexed and hopefully rank highly in Search Engines and get traffic, it should improve.

Try something for me though, unpublish this hub and see if within 24 hours you get over 75 HubberScore.

Done (hub unpublished).  We'll see what happens.  If it works, I'd be curious to know why you picked that one.  It has lots of links, but all but one are hubpages links, and I thought that HP liked that.

Either way, thanks so much for taking the time to look at my hubs and offer real advice.  That's very cool of you!!!

Darkside, you are a genius!  I dropped that article and within 12 hours my author score shot up 10 points to 84.

I took a look at the hub and noticed that I had 1 outbound link in it.  Perhaps HubPages is particularly sensitive to outbound links for hubs in the HubPages category.

As an experiment, I then removed the outbound link and re-published the Hub.  My author score quickly dropped 5 points, to 79.

That hub as a lot of links to other hubpages, including several of mine.  So my guess is that that one hub cost me 5 points for the outbound link and 5 points for the internal links.

Anyway, thanks again Darkside for your help in pointing out that hub as a problematic one!

Carl, I'll bet it's not as simple as that!  HubPages doesn't frown on outbound links unless they're excessive, so one link shouldn't make a difference.  It may just be coincidence that the score dropped at just that time, because they can easily fluctuate by 5 or 10 points with time.

Darkside is right, as you get more experienced, you stop worrying about your HubberScore or even your HubScores - not because they're higher, but because you appreciate that they have no bearing whatsoever on earnings.

...except if you go below 74!  Then you are disadvantaged in every way! x

It was just a hunch. The reason I suggested that one was maybe there had been a lot of negative votes against it. Though it may not have been the only reason. The linking could have played just as much a part and the combination of those two (or perhaps more) factors could have been what kept you down for so long.

Later, with a few more hubs, a track record of positive votes, it might be okay to republish the hub and the positives will outweigh any negative and you won't drop out of the 90s.

It's interesting through that my hunch paid off, and that you experimented a bit more to double check. There are a lot of factors that can help a person to score high, not just one method. People tend to overlook that, they think that if they do a check list of things that it'll work out for them. But again, it's just a number that really doesn't prove a persons worth as long as they can get over the 75 barrier and into the 80+ range.

yeah, when you are 74 - darkside knows it is a handicap *darkside's hubs are the best and I have learned this from him xxx*

Having the majority of hubs under 70 may make it hard for a person to break past 75. But I'm not sure that's the case with you.

I have a few of my hubs that link heavily to other hubs with pretty much duplicate content contained within the capsule. Such as my How To Hubs, I'll have links to related hubs.

You see you recently made a change to remove all the outbound links and link to your profile, wait about 24 to 48 hours and see if there's an improvement. If there isn't, I'd suspect it could be because you've got the three capsules with identical content on all 50 hubs. It could be the cause.

On my normal hubs (the non-HubPage related hubs) I don't encourage people to click through to my profile, or any other hub (unless it is directly related to the topic). That might be the solution to your under-75 HubberScore dilemma. But just see if it improves with the changes you have made.

Hey there everyone, I'm super new here. Like what they say in Japan; "Please treat me kindly!"

Today when I logged in, my author hub score was shockingly at 82. I only have 4 hubs, and started 5 days ago. Part of me is having a parade inside of my head for being able to reach my first goal! However, the responsible part of me knows that scores fluctuate often, and wants to work hard, participate, and have fun. I didn't originally expect that my interests were common ground for many people.

I know that if I want to be (and stay) in the 80s-90s, I gotta do something amazing. -And by reading this thread I see that many of you guys already have. You guys are my heroes when it comes to article writing!

Being under 75 (authorscore) only adds nofollow to links ,on all your hubs below 40 so you're not as bad off as you think. If your at 74 but all hubs are above 40 there still won't be any dofollow links degraded to nofollow. That score doesn't matter much unless you're a spammer. Its meant to affect Spammers. Although I think that standard is low and should be raised to 50 or 55

I think that you are mistaken about the nofollow links.  My understanding is that if your author score is under 75, all your links are nofollow, regardless of hub score.

darksideposted 14 years agoin reply to this

        You are correct.

Under 40 on an individual hub will make that hubs links no follow. Under 75 on the HubberScore will make all hubs no follow, regardless of individual score.

Carl, there you go!  I'm seeing 84 (seeing this thread when I've seen it).  Based on what's been offered in this thread, and the fact that you're pretty new, I'm guessing your score will be "living in the 90's" very soon.  (Darkside and Ryankett are great sources of help to newer Hubbers.)
